It looks like I’ll be heading to Wimbledon a little earlier than planned after losing to Radek Stepanek at Queen’s.
I’d never say it’s a blessing in disguise – I don’t enjoy losing and I messed up that first set by missing so many set points – but at least I now get the chance to give my body a bit of a break.
I’ve played a lot of tennis over the last few weeks after reaching the French Open semi-finals and I’ll have a rest on Friday and Saturday, before getting back on the practice court at Wimbledon on Sunday.
It will also give me the chance to watch a few World Cup matches – I’ll give you my tip at the end of the column.
I had planned to take Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday off if I’d got to the final at Queen’s, but that can just move forward and give me five or six days on the grass next week.
My new coach, Amelie Mauresmo, is going to play in an exhibition while I’m resting and we’ll get back together after the Rally For Bally charity match at Queen’s on Sunday afternoon, when we can head over to the All England Club to start work.
We haven’t worked out the specific details of how many weeks she might travel with me in the future, but part of the reason I want to have a coach with me for a decent amount of time is that it makes communication easier.
It can be quite hard when someone is leading the team but they’re not around that much, because they don’t know how physical matches have been, or all the stuff you’ve been doing on the court or in the gym.
Obviously, Amelie and I don’t know exactly how it’s going to work out yet because we’ve only spent two days together, and I’ve been playing matches on those days, so there’s not a whole lot you can do in that time.My match against Paul Henri-Mathieu on Wednesday finished quite late and I went out and hit a few more balls afterwards, then saw the physio.
I had a little chat with Amelie after that but there was no chance to go out for dinner or spend the evening together as I had a match to prepare for the following day.
Next week we’ll have a lot of time to talk on the practice court in a bit of peace and quiet, before things start to get a bit hectic in the few days before Wimbledon starts.
Amelie is a former Wimbledon champion, so she’s experienced all of that, and she also knows that however many times you go through it, making the switch from clay to grass is tricky.
For the last four or five weeks, when I’ve been serving on clay, the ball has come back slowly and I’ve been hitting the ball up high. On grass, it comes back faster and lower, and I struggled with that against Stepanek.
The body also takes time to adjust to the different movements. I’ve been sliding on the clay for weeks and that’s different to the way you have to stop on these courts. You have to stay a lot lower on grass and that works your hips, backside and lower back as you bend down a lot more. On the clay you use your quads as you’re getting the ball up higher.
The good news is my body feels good, it’s just little technical things like that I have to work on, and two days isn’t always enough when you come up against a good opponent.
So while I’m staying off the court and out of the gym for the next couple of days, I can turn my attention to the World Cup.
Most of the games are fairly late so I’ll probably watch them at home, maybe with a few friends. We’ve got a sweepstake going but I haven’t picked my teams out yet, and I’m hoping there are still a couple of contenders left.
I have done a fantasy World Cup team and I’d say my best player is Sergio Aguero. In the Premier League you have to think about 38 games, whereas in the World Cup you need guys who aren’t going to get knocked out in the group stage.
I think Argentina will do well, with the climate and everything, it could be Messi’s time to shine!

I didn't see any of the movies that you mentioned. But, his demeanor and tongue-in-cheek humor was sooo Andy. The more I watched, the more I fell in love with his character.
My son loved him in the Spiderman role too. He said he's a much better Spiderman than Tobey, and I agree. At first, I was trying to be on Tobey's side, but after the movie I just gave it up.
So much reminded me of Andy, the way he walked, and everything. It was surreal.
Hmmm...now I want to see Spiderman. Even if I don't go to the theatre to see it, I am sure I will watch it when it comes to on DVD. Will compare notes then, haha.
Have you seen it yet? Think of Andy as an actor and you get this guy. Even my teenaged son agreed with me, and he does his darnedest not to agree with me!

Andy looks very handsome and distinguished.
He just has that British flair (I'm probably wrong because I can't get that English, Great Britain, Scottish, Wales things together, it's so confusing).
They say, well...by they I really mean other Murray fans who also happen to be British, that Andy has more Scottish flair than the overall British flair. I remember one time I said that Andy's accent doesn't strike me too Scottish or that he sounds more English and I got a quite flack for it. lolol But seriously, I can understand every single word Andy says but I have a slight hard time understanding his parents and Jaime even. Never mind his grand parents. lol but so cute though.
I believe UK consists of Wales, Scotland, Ireland, and England. Andy had made a comment on the English football/soccer team a few years ago and became the most hated athlete among English overnight I believe. Not all English people feel the same way of course.

Went to see the new Spiderman movie. It was uncanny his resemblance to Andy Murray. Ironically, his name is Andrew too. I leaned over to my son and asked him if he saw the resemblance and he was shocked at how much they looked alike.
He even has the same demeanor as Andy, so it was a real treat. It was like watching an action movie and tennis at the same time.
Yes, yes TT darling, most Murray fans are actaully aware of the striking similarity between the two. In fact a year or two ago, on Murray's World, we even talked about it and someone posted a few pictures of them as well.
As to the demeanor, I had no idea about that. Mind you, I've seen only a couple movies of Garfield (The Social Network and Never Let Me Go) and they were both serious movies, so the playful side and the dark humour of Garfield wasn't really shown in any of those movies, so I had nothing to compare. But I suppose the Spider-man character must have that element to it so it's only fitting that the similarities would shine more there. I should mention that I haven't seen any of the latest Spider man movies yet but I'd heard Andrew makes a better Spider-man than Tobey Maguire and the movies are getting a bit better review as well.
The first name is uncanny for sure. Maybe they are long lost twin brothers who knows. What's funny is that, Jamie Murray doesn't look anything like Andy. lol
I remember Andrew Garfield being in one of Andy's matches - perhaps at the 2012 USO final. People must have told him about the resemblance I am sure.

Judging by Andy's comments below it seems Johnny Mac is on Andy's list as well. He seems to have a lot of respect for him but he also likes the fact that JM is always very keen on Andy's game and has shown a lot of interest over the years.
Andy says before RG would be ideal but will definitely hire someone before Wimbledon.

I do think he was asked the question and he simply obliged. In reality, it doesn't seem like a very good idea as he's a very busy person already. Of course he could have said no as well and the rumour would have died right away but it's possible he has genuine interest. JM does love Wimbledon and I feel he'd love to be the coach of Andy next time he wins Wimbledon. He really loved the atmosphere the last time. He was almost in tears and his voice was breaking down a bit if I recall correctly!

I read an article about Johnny Mac offering himself as Andy's new coach in a round about way. He's a great master of the sport and his expertise/experience is quite valuable; however, Andy made it quite clear that he won't be hiring any tennis legend as his next coach. So I guess that possibility was always out of the question.

A new coach really should be someone who brings different perspectives and strategies vs other players since that's what mostly it's about. And also, he can tweak Andy's game a bit where it's necessary but most importantly, keep Andy highly motivated if Andy is still willing to play at a very high level throughout the year and throughout his career overall.
Someone who's willing to travel and be very keen on Andy's needs and the way he wants things. But at the same time, he should be able to instill new ideas into that stubborn mind of Andy. Perhaps that will require some subtlety.

Former No. 1 Ilie Nastase thinks Andy Murray should not even look for a new coach after his recent partnership with Ivan Lendl ended.
Don't expect Ilie Nastase to join the ranks of former famous players who are now coaching today's top pros.
Speaking ahead of last week's Laureus Sports Awards, Nastase told Gulf News he has no interest in signing up to coach a current player. The outspoken and flamboyant Nastase of Romania reached No. 1 in the world back in the early 1970's. Nastase won the US Open in 1972 and the French Open in 1973 as part of his 58 career tour titles.
With Andy Murray now on the hunt for a new coach after his two-year partnership with Ivan Lendl ended in March, speculation continues as to who that might be. Nastase made it clear he was not interested and doesn't see the point in Murray being coached by anyone.
"I don’t think these guys need a coach," Nastase said. "They need a good friend maybe. Or a good-looking girl, I don’t know. I don’t think they (former stars) can help much. What can they do? He (Murray) knows how to play the game. I think he just needs someone to trust him and practice with him. Not necessarily a big guy or name, I don’t believe in that."
Along with the recent Lendl and Murray pairing, several other well-known retired players have returned as coaches. Stefan Edberg is now working with Roger Federer while Michael Chang assists as a coaching consultant to Kei Nishikori.
Novak Djokovic hired Boris Becker to be his main coach starting at the beginning of the year. That partnership continues to perplex many including Nastase despite Djokovic recently winning titles in Indian Wells and Miami.
“Djokovic did well without Boris Becker. Maybe he’s using him to boost his image, I don’t know," Nastase said.
Murray himself said he will begin the process of seeking out his new coach in the next few weeks.

Yeah, pretty much it depends on how far he gets at the AO. I have seen him play at Indian Wells every year since 2007. As a matter of fact, my first ever live tennis match was the SF Murray - Djokovic at Indian Wells in 2007 :)

Have you seen the Wimbledon 2008 documentary? He is there too, saying that 2008 final is one of his very few best experiences in life.
Andy is so funny and cute at the same time. Love his sense of humour.
Now that I know his name I will look him up on YouTube. I really enjoyed his style, and he was funny to boot!

If you are in the lineup you would need to sleep there in a tent to get a centrecourt or court 1 ticket. It is about 1000 tickets for centrecourt everyday.
I wish I knew some of the sponsors there, then more easy to get tickets. Next year maybe easier also as I can get tickets from my sons tennis club.
I got free tickets this year in WTF, because I know the sponsor. But Wimbledon is sooooo much better than WTF. Not comparable.
When you are at Wimbledon you feel that you are in the centre of the world or something. So many happy memories from there.
Next year I am pretty tied up with a couple of things so it's highly unlikely. I do like the fact that Centre Court now has a roof because otherwise no point spending all night out in a tent only to find out plays have been suspended. So it's at least a sure thing if you have tickets for CC. It's been a while I'd been to London as well. I used to date a British guy and went there a couple of times but that's at least 6/7 years ago. Also, I didn't get to browse as much so if I do go to W, I can get a number of things done. 2015 should really be my year of true freedom when I'll get to travel a lot!

Most people have little to no input concerning what graphics are on the cover of their books. Those decisions are made at the discretion of the publishers, unless you're super successful and are granted input on such things. I'd bet anything Andy had no idea what was going to be on the front of his book until they showed it to him.

Most people have little to no input concerning what graphics are on the cover of their books. Those decisions are made at the discretion of the publishers, unless you're super successful and are granted input on such things. I'd bet anything Andy had no idea what was going to be on the front of his book until they showed it to him.

Hola herc, was wondering if we could combine the two Andy threads - this with the picture one. I am not a big fan of too many threads as I find it very hard to keep up due to a very busy schedule.
Great work on both threads though herc. You've been doing a much better job than me as a Murray fan. I am just taking a break from Andy right now but gearing up for next year.
Really miss him but it's worth the wait. He sounds optimistic, yes and he should be, frankly. Hopefully we'll see a brand new consistent and motivated Andy in 2014 and onwards. Amen!

Andy Murray targets Australian Open return if fit enough to win
Andy Murray says he will only play in January's Australian Open if he is fit enough to win the tournament.
The Wimbledon champion has begun rehabilitation work following an operation on his back last month.
Recovery from the surgery to address a disc problem has prevented Murray from appearing at the ATP World Tour Finals in London in November.
"You don't come back just to play a match," said Murray. "If I come back I want to be in the shape to win it."
The Scot has finished as runner-up three times in Melbourne, losing the 2013 final in four sets to Novak Djokovic.
"I'd be disappointed to miss the Australian Open because its a Grand Slam - it's a tournament all the players want to play in," added the 26-year-old.

"I can look at this in a lot of positive ways, if I do get myself ready for it I will have had a long lead up and training block to get myself in the best possible shape."
Murray's back problems forced him to withdraw from the French Open in May, but he recovered to become the first Briton to win the Wimbledon men's singles title since Fred Perry in 1936.
In September, the world number four's defence of his US Open title ended in the quarter-finals , but he then helped Great Britain beat Croatia in the Davis Cup before surgery.
"It was a hard decision to have surgery, to realise I was going to miss a period of time was frustrating," he said.
"You realise how much you miss from competition where you're away from it. It will be hard missing London, but I'll just have to make the best of it."
Murray is keen to be fit enough to appear at an exhibition tournament in Barbados at the end of November, but he will assess his recovery over the next month.
"If there are some setbacks, then I am not going to rush back. I'd love to be able to play a match or two in Barbados, but I'll have a better idea of that in 10 days or two weeks."

I also had a contest regarding them if you recall asking people if they could figure out the significance of these paintings as related to tennis. Dear masterclass, I wasn't around for that game at MTF but I would have been able to figure it out if I had the time and intention. :)
In any case, I am very interested in the theme of these paintings. They have a similar thing going on which begs the question, why are they interested in killing the dragon? Are they coded messages? Does dragon represent something evil or something different?

If I am to be honest, I don't care for OBE or the Knighthood stuff. At all. The only OBE I care about is the Out of Body Experience one. lol These are all pretentious titles - fake. I know Andy. He's not that person who does things to get praised or honoured. He does everything to make people happy or to make others happy. He very rarely does anything for himself. I've seen him being all pumped up when it came to do something for his country. But he had to be there because while the world has moved on, UK is still stuck with its fake 'royal' society. If you don't go with fake stuff, you have to deal with their fake media who feed garbage on a daily basis; not to mention, they would be very keen on ripping you apart with their over the top critical attitude. But the good thing is, this country still has greats like Andy Murray and some other really good and genuine personalities so hats off to those.
So anyway, a true superior person is humble and modest and shy away from all these accolades and fake titles. There are a lot of unsung heros out there doing greater things for humanity and they never get noticed and they never care. That's not why they do it. I don't even care about the Nobel prize. Its intention was genuine at first but since then it has gone all Hollywood style. When guys like Obama gets the peace prize you know there's something seriously wrong with the system.

Andy's pants should be at least a couple of inches shorter. This is ongoing problem for Andy where Lendl can be of no use. Only Kim and mum perhaps. lol. I would not let Andy out of the house if he were to pants this long. It's neither cool nor stylish. But he looks very nice otherwise. Just needs to adjust the length of the pants in the future.
Kim looks like a middle aged grandma in that outfit. That hat should be worn with the hair down. And yes, she should have just gone with a simple solid colour instead of all that gibberish and the colour could have been just something light and lovely. Oh well. Typically she dresses well though - nothing outstanding but not bad either.

I am a huge fan of the great dunblane warrior. it only takes me seconds to create a picture as I have over 5000 images at hand.
I uses 3-4 programs that I found on the internet and I have become fairly handy with using them. basically I have learned to combine them to make my images.
obviously I am not all that good but who cares. I know I am not a professional at this. I am just having fun.
I find doing something like this in my spare time relaxing.
at any rate I know sooner or later we will get more andy fans coming our way. that is why I put the andy art gallery right next to the café. this way they can browse and even come up with ideas for more sports images if they wish. or they can post their own images and pictures of andy murray.
these types of threads at large forums tend to be very popular.
