"In 2010, Rafael Nadal became the first male player in the history of tennis to win three Grand Slams on three different surfaces in the same calendar year (French Open, Wimbledon, US Open)."

I didn't know he was the first!

I am not sure about his Abu Dhabi record, he won it once I believe. He is playing a ton of exhos against Nole, Abu Dhabi, and then Doha. I am not sure I like this schedule too much.

You're probably right. Sometimes I forget how savvy he and his team are. They know what they're doing. I can just sit back and relax.

clay warrior has something on his mind with all this exo tennis.

I think he wants to keep playing so he is pretty much close to his best timing when the Australian open starts.

Rather bizarre the way he schedules year after year.

Anyway, your interests panel? looks really cool!

what is his record at abu dhabi exo event?

we should be able to get a glimpse of his level there first. that event starts on December 26th.

anyway I am hoping for a another sensational year for the clay warrior in 2014.

not too many great years left to make some major noise. he has to try to capitalize on his momentum and his confidence in 2014.

Hello fellow Rafa fans :)

So, Rafa's first official tournament in 2014 will be Doha. What do you think , was that a good decision? One time , I forgot what year it was, Rafa caught some virus there and was sweating like crazy. Otherwise his record at Doha is not bad - 14:5 with one Final , 2 SFs, and 2 QFs.

Do you know.. I have the same knee chronic injury as Rafa. I know how painful it is.

The good thing about his knee is that it is not dangerous and when he retire he will have no more pain.
Rest helps it, and some treatments. But it will never disappear. The knee will not be the factor for him to retire I think, he has been able to learn to play in pain. As long as he doesn't get a tear up (as he almost did in 2012) he just have to take care of it..

We should be happy that he doesn't have other injuries in his shoulder f.ex. Incredible he doesn't have that with his massive FH.
I am more afraid of that really.

But I worry if he has too much pain in his knee...He said several times that his health is most important. Have to trust him there. On the other hand he is so competitive I am not sure if he is careful enough.

excellent point. that is exactly what led me to exit the sport. I had a massive topspin forehand which I just had to hit at 300 MPH all the time.

and then to make matters even more insane, I had a heavy topspin backhand also.

the deal with heavy topspin players is this: they have to hit all the time and cant really afford to miss a single day.

it only takes a few days and the timing and the rhythm is gone.

especially today when everybody is hitting the ball at 600 MPH.

nadal has to be strong as hell otherwise that shoulder and the back would given away already.

Wow! You did have great seats.

I worry about Rafa's knees too. I don't know how he's played on them so long, and as you said, at such a high level.

I can't believe he's playing those exo's, but I guess he knows his body better than I do.

I just want him to hang around a little longer.

I don't know what I'll do when he leaves the game. Not too many people can match him in the intensity department.

He's always trying to win. I find that very admirable.

affirmative. no telling how much he would have been able to dominate the sport if he had not been struck down with those knee and foot issues.

by some calculations, he has had to basically lose 2 years to injuries. that is a lot to leave on the table for an athlete.

he was injured when he was 17 too. so injuries have hounded him forever.

I know where the spanish players like to eat when they are in London. They often eat together. I had to restrain myself from not going there during WTF. Lol.

Thinking about Rafas knee.. how it is going. Think about, he played with that knee for a decade.. Still he won so much, play at the highest level. A warrior of a champion he is. Think about how much he would have won if he didn't have that injury.

I have some more photos too!
As you can see I had pretty good seats ;)
I was to shy to bring my big camera, but I kinda regret that now. Then it would be possible to take pic when he was playing the match.
Pic from the match the ball looks like a shooting star and the players like angels or something. Such a bad camera iPhone in the dark.

affirmative "the truth".

we have the best of all worlds. we have a nice, quiet, and a respectable place here and we have other forums at our finger tips as well.

that is just more information, more interactions, and more fun for all of us.

Great to know. It's always nice to be able to talk tennis at more than one place.

I am still learning my way around here, but am enjoying it immensely.

Nice to watch and enjoy tennis without a lot of ruckus.

These separate forums are a  great idea. Now you don't have to wade through a lot of unnecessary threads to talk about what you want to talk about.

Question?

What is Tennis Frontier?

Is it affiliated with this forum?

tennis frontier is a neighboring tennis forum that is run and owned by 3 friends:

1. baron
2. tented
3. moxie

all three are friends of mine and they are friends of Camelot also.

we are not affiliated with anybody. we decided to have our own unique place and to chart our own special, memorable, and unique course through the tennis universe.

market is large enough for all of us to grow, prosper, and to have fun.

looked at this dynamic in that light, we are all really on the same cruise.

affirmative.

and it is picking up just a tiny bit anyway.
well emma at least we know all about a humble beginning. we started with absolutely nothing.

at east it gives the folks some options now anyway. they have more places they can visit and they can post with greater ease.

do you remember how this place looked in the very beginning like on the first few days?

now we are looking a bit more organized. also I got rid of that banner. it was just making the place look crowded.

clean look is better in my estimation.

It's good to have these players forums. They will come handy if it does pick up at some point.
