Sorry to get back to you on this so late but sometimes I completely forget about where I'd said what unless it's right in front of me.
It is what it is as I said. I just don't believe in a set of rules set out by people and all religions are all about that because they are all more or less based on the followers' encounters, which can very well run the risk of being quite different than the actual events. And they do according to many scholars. That does not however negate my trust in Jesus or Mohammad or Buddha or Moses etc., but most importantly, God. I do think that the concept of God is lost to many; in other words, we really don't have the true concept of God, especially when we still have the tendency to attach a human figure and mind to it, but that's a matter of a separate discussion, like Who or What is God? etc.
For now, I am just going to leave at that because I believe everyone is on their own journey and not matter what path we take, we will eventually arrive to the same place contrary to different religious belief systems.
But the things I have outlined in my previous post, come to think of it, they are all quite neutral - be it sex, drugs, weapons, alcohol, materialism etc. It's us who go and manipulate and abuse things. So clearly the main problem is within us.
-
Materialism (hate it with a passion)
Religious dogmas and doctrine
Weapons (hate it with a passion. Why do we need weapons again?)
Drugs (hate it with a passion)
Alcohol (when people abuse it)
Sex (when people abuse it)
Economy (how the rise and fall of market place govern our lives)
Consumerism (hate it with a passion)
In reality, none of these are the real culprits because neither alcohol nor weapons or anything else tell us to abuse those and kill other people. Sex doesn't tell us to go ****, kill and sexually assault others, but it is probably the No. 1 crime in our world happening probably in most households, where people are victims of someone else' twisted sexual desires. Even innocent children aren't left alone. Really hate all these negative character traits in human beings.
These are great.
What do you mean by religious dogmas and doctrine?
I think I know, but I'm not sure.

I agree.
I hate selfishness too.
It is one of the most negative emotions known to mankind.

Pet Peeves...
1) Corruption - people lining their own pockets at the expense of the man on the street
2) Snobs - people who look down on others using material possessions as the measuring stick.
3) Bad Manners... my old man told me manners cost nothing. He was right.
4) People who can't hold their hand up. If you're wrong, out of order or have been an arse, hold your hand up.
5) Liars.
6) Cheats
my greatest pet peeve has to be selfishness.
and these people who do the very things you are talking about are plain selfish among other things.
I have always considered "selflessness" to be absolutely vital. it means something to me and it is something to be proud of.
it is something to strive for every single day.
every single day we should do little something for somebody other than ourselves.
I was born and raised with this philosophy and I have never ever lost sight of it.
we give first and foremost and then we worry about receiving.
it is the way of the warrior.

This one BOTHERS ME SO MUCH!!!
Cologne
Sorry guys, but I don't like the smell of cologne, and I'm not sure how many other girls are the same way. It just doesn't smell good, and it doesn't attract girls, at least me. Sorry if this offended you, but it's true! :)
Makes me nuts too!
Specially because a lot of the men uses a bad one!
When you give someone a goodbye hug and the cologne smell stays on my coat! How annoying is that? ugh

Since it is near Christmas, I'll share my holiday pet peeve:
Renaming CHRISTmas with "Happy Holidays" and "Xmas".
One, you are replacing the name of the most important holiday (and on an extended note you are replacing Jesus with a fat man who gives kids presents, when Jesus is the true gift to the world)
Two, you are replacing CHRIST with an "X"! You're xing out GOD? I think that is enough said about that topic.
Any holiday pet peeves from anyone else?
I don't agree with the Xmas, but I have no problem with Happy Holidays. I think it is simpler and fairer than confining the term to the Christian religion. There are many different faiths, and happy holidays captures it better, imo.
There's so much wrong with the whole idea. I hate that Christmas is so commercial and I don't believe in trees, presents, cards, or any of that stuff, tbh.

People that make sound when they eat. (can't eat, just terrible)
Bad service.
People who talk about other people all the time.
Clutter.
People without patience.

extreme selfishness pisses me off the most.
;D ;D

This was a very good read, guys. I will tell you what turns me off though you have pretty much covered it all. I think I can tolerate most things except for when people lean more towards greed, power, lust, abuse etc. I dislike it when people stop being considerate, helpful, loving, caring, patient and non-judgmental. That's when they become extremely self-centred and they make everything about themselves - as in - Me, Me, and some more Me. These are not particular pet peeves and more in the generic sense but these things turn me off completely.
-
I agree with all.
-
I agree. Poor service irritates me.
-
I cant stand inattentive and careless waiters and waitresses in bars and restaurants.
there is no excuse for that. they make their living with their tips so they should be able to provide top notch service.
it does not happen often but it does happen once in a while. they are busy texting, or on their cell phones in the corners, or just chatting away with their fellow employees.
smart cell phones have become quite addictive for so many. some people cant last a minute without it.
-
Slow drivers that go under the speed limit.
People who smack (make loud noises when they eat).
Inefficient service people (cashier's, sales clerks).
People who don't/care follow instructions.
People who use excuses for their behavior instead of accepting responsibility for their actions.
People who are overly concerned with their appearance and think they're better than others as a result.
Self-centered people who always put their needs first.
Liars
Greedy people.
People who lack empathy and compassion.
Bullies
Telemarketers

I have
several a lot of pet peeves...it doesn't help that I'm OCD... (please don't take anything personal or offensive)
- open drawers, doors, and cabinets
- fingernails on a chalkboard (ohhh I have a headache now just thinking about it...)
- people ignoring me even after I repeat myself so many times that it drives me nuts
- rumors
- when something isn't straight
- when little kids watch the same movies I watch (ones that are obviously too old for them...It scares me that they have heard those words before...and they enjoy them!)
- when little kids cuss uncontrollably (what ever happened to "poop", "butt", and "stupid" being curse words?)
- if I touch something with one hand, I have to touch it with the other hand (I'm actually getting better about that)
- "kiddos" and other annoying word forms that aren't the originals
- sassy people who call me out on things that they do themselves...hypocrites (Luke 6:42 (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke+6:42&version=NIV))
- missing puzzle pieces
- people celebrating Christmas before Thanksgiving and, sometimes, Halloween (Hello...you just skipped a very important holiday! It's about being thankful! You selfish monsters! You aren't thankful about anything!........It's one thing if you still care about Thanksgiving, but jeez...)
- people walking around with books and binders with hundreds of papers falling out that they don't even need anymore (no wonder you're always losing stuff)
- sassy people
- backtalking
- people who pass you in their cars and then go SLOW
- people who prevent you from changing lanes when you need to turn while driving
- people who care more about shopping and/or their belongings than anything else in the world (idolizing things)
that was just to name a few...does anyone agree with any of them?
