affirmative. he really needed this after losses in china, paris, and london at the end of the last season.
this restores some confidence and he is moving in the right direction.
most important thing is that he appears to be healthy.
-
Rafa finally wins a tournament before the Australian Open! That should be a good confidence booster and practice!

Watched Andy lose the match from 6-3, 3-1. He looked slow and sluggish from that point on and as a result, looked very frustrated. I think he wants to get back in proper shape before AO but obviously it's not looking rather likely right now. Still need a few more matches before AO. The confidence is definitely not there due to lack of fitness. It was very good match for him. Mayer is a solid and experienced player after all and I am very glad he pushed Andy this much and made Andy so frustrated. He needs it right now. All in all, I really expected Andy to be like this after the surgery and after a few months of break.
he needs matches right now. I hate to see him lose this early.

I am just glad andy is back. not its time to rack up match wins and get some momentum going.
-
andy dominates in the opener.
here are the live scores:

Wish he had given Zayed a couple of games at least but still, I don't think Andy played sublime tennis judging by the stats. Zayed probably crumbled way before at the thought of playing Andy.

I suppose you haven't figured out how to put the live scores up there yet? It's okay though cause we can always get it by going to ATP site.
it is all in house lady Emma.
all you have to is click on wide world of sports thread. and then click on live tennis scores.
in fact this link is far more complete.
ATP site does not give you live scores from every single event on planet.
our links do that.
anyway I have yet to figure out how to display all the live scores on the top.
That's where I meant herc, but we really don't need it.

Rafa takes down Rosol. gets tobias kamke next.
I saw Kamke play yesterday. he is playing quite well.
here is the draw again:

agreed. it is a very strong field in Doha.

Andy plays a local first, Zayed and Nadal plays Rosol. Each draw looks loaded to be honest. Nadal's got Rosol, Gulbis and Berdych, and Andy's got Verdasco, Gasquet and later Ferrer. Andy's half has more experienced players however.

looks like nadal is playing doubles too. this time with a 45 year old doubles partner.
QATAR EXXONMOBIL OPEN 2014
Murray To Make Doha Comeback; Nadal Doubles Up
Doha, Qatar
Andy Murray returns to the ATP World Tour after a three-month absence.
Andy Murray returns to competitive action this week at the Qatar Exxon Mobil Open in Doha, following a three-month injury lay-off.
Murray has been drawn to meet wild card Mousa Shanan Zayed at the ATP World Tour 250 tournament, where he won the 2008 and 2009 titles.
Interestingly, the World No. 4 has won an ATP World Tour title the past four times he has played in the opening week of the season. He lifted the Brisbane International trophy the past two years.
But the 26 year old might have his work cut out if he is to maintain his 19-match winning streak at tournaments in the first week of the year.
Four other players in the Top 10 of the Emirates ATP Rankings – No. 1 Rafael Nadal, No. 3 David Ferrer, No 7 Tomas Berdych and No. 9 Richard Gasquet – are also competing in Qatar.
Nadal, the 2010 finalist, will open his 2014 ATP World Tour season against Lukas Rosol.
He is also competing in the doubles competition with 45-year-old Francisco Roig, who is one of his coaches. The pair played at the 2009 Coupe Rogers in Montreal (d. Djokovic-Vemic in R1).
Ferrer, who is in the same half of the Doha draw as Murray, will face Alexandr Dolgopolov in the first round. Berdych goes up against Ivo Karlovic and defending champion Gasquet will challenge wild card Karim Hossam.
Murray played his last tour-level match on 15 September and underwent minor back surgery eight days later. He started on-court training again on 20 November, from his Miami base.
In 2013, Murray became the first British man to win the Wimbledon singles title since Fred Perry in 1936. Earlier this month, he was named BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

That's a strong field for a 250 event! Exciting!
affirmative general.
it is a very strong field.
I am looking forward to it.
;D ;D

Novak not there? Anyone knows if he has other plans somewhere else?
not sure what his plans are.
he might play some exo matches. we will have to try to find out.
