Hi Poetic, I have a tip to share if you don't mind. In my years of having both vegetable & flower gardens, I've always found it so annoying trying to water my garden & the water runs everywhere but on the roots of my plants. I've discovered if I take a water bottle & poke tiny holes with a nail, bury it 3/4 in the ground just enough for the water bottle top to stick out, works great. All I do is carry my watering can & fill up the water bottles & it goes right to the roots which needs it. No muddy mess in the garden. Also, I've experimented with growing veggies in regular square hay bales. They are up off the ground & you just dig out a small section, add a little dirt and insert your plants. I've found it works wonders for tomatoes, squashes and fruit. This way your veggies are cushioned and will avoid soil rot. Hope this helps some of you. Great thread you have Poetic. Have a wonderful day and many Blessings.
