I've got another one by Nails. Not as detailed though as the first one but still good. I like the tennis ball as the symbol of moon up in the sky.

this is truly awesome work emma. very impressive.

keep it coming.

morning emma, Anikh, and the others.

here are all the live scores:

emma I think you are right. evidently rafa did complain about the conditions on the centre court. rather than fixing the issues they just decided to hustle him off to the side court.

its their loss. rafa happens to the top global draw in tennis. people who had tickets for the centre court to go see rafa simply wont bother showing up there.

No herc, I think it's Rafa who requested to play 'to the side court'. By the time he goes back to Chartier, the conditions will be much better due to heavy play in these 3/4 days. Nadal is just being smart and avoiding being upset. Right now he's not trusting the CC conditions as much and also, as I understand it, the courts are playing a bit faster but that could very well be a myth. But apparently Raonic and Isner had 27 and 23 Aces. I don't remember which courts they were on though.

I see.

I saw something on twitter that seemed to suggest that his team was "surprised" at the court assignment.

it might have been somebody misinformed.

at any rate its game on there now. rain has stopped.

nole is going to run right through sousa.

Well, Andy's team was very surprised too when they were told that Andy had put through a request to open his first match on Tuesday instead of Monday. It could very well be that the Organizers keep this as a secret and probably only happens between the players and the organizers. No one, perhaps not even the team , is supposed to know (in fear of leaking I suppose).

They have no reason to put Andy on Tuesday and as late as possible. You may think there's a big conspiracy going on there against Andy, but
If you think about it logically and reasonably, you will come to the conclusion that, they actually have no reason to do so. More importantly, Andy himself isn't saying anything about it. And neither is Rafa, is he? Typically at least Nadal would have said something by now.

But I would have thought that Rafa would be more keen on getting the job done today no matter where he was put on. In fact, I was told that Rafa wants to play today (Monday), so that should be the focal point.

I'd have personally liked it if Andy were to play today too and it seems only he starts his match after all the top seeds have played there matches and it seems to happen in Slams and in fact, in other tournaments as well such as Masters, 500 events etc. like all the time. He quite often starts on Wednesday even when he's probably the No. 1 seed there in that tournament. That's a big coincidence there but there are no such things. So I really think it has lot to do with requests than Organizers being unfair to certain players.

Also they put Andy's matches in a way so that the Brits will be able to watch him no matter where he plays. That's not a coincidence there either if Andy's matches are almost always falling for a perfect view those of Brits.

it is so damn hard to watch lesser players now that we have been spoiled by the consistency of the top 4 for so long.

sousa hits every 2nd or 3rd ball into the net or out.

davydenko is clearly done. he cant seem to win a first round match in singles anymore at any event.

maybe he should consider playing doubles too.

I do remember Andy being upset one time (not verbally but rather visibly, body language, mood swing etc.) at the 2012 USO when they scheduled him to play outside AA. So who knows maybe something there's to it as well.

But this one here at RG, it does seem both Rafa playing outside CC on his first day and similarly Andy playing on Wednesday have a lot to do with the players.

You are right on that. I think it's sheer fear that holds them back. Players are afraid of these players and they typically explode mentally way before the match.

Occasionally though we get to see some drama/upsets etc. but certainly not enough. The 90s had seen some seriously dangerous floaters. I don't really see it these days and in fact for a long time now. Federer's long winning streak is well contributed to that.

Ward is exploding against Robredo. He won the 1st set but now seems to be really going down.

And looks like Simon will be finishing his match pretty soon. Anikh will be able to watch at least Rafa if nothing. Seems to be a bad day today with all the rain interruptions and all.

Nole's only 2 games away from finishing his match.

you know you are responsible for my having become a huge pistol pete fan.

mimi used to fight with me all the time because I was never a pistol pete fan.

upon more careful scrutiny I have realized just how tough it was to defeat the great pistol at slams or at other events. 6 years at #1 means that he was just a monster at the other events also.

he was every bit as mentally tough as nadal and nole if not more. I mean just look at his slam record.

he had that aura about him. he knew he was the boss and he was confident when he stepped out on the court.

he was never arrogant so it was sort of a quiet confidence. players pretty much knew that they had no chance against him if he was playing well.

I am glad you like him, herc. He's really one of the greatest and most gracious players in history of tennis. It was an incredible combination of honest and low key personality, perfect game and lethal mental strength.

People those who never followed him or followed him selectively don't really know how difficult a job it was to break through among living legends and then establish his own authority over all others within 5 years of turning pro. And how difficult it was to stay No. 1 for six straight years from 1993 to 1998 while beating most players week in week out.

In fact, he would have stayed No. in 1999 as well but he had to withdrew from AO and had to withdraw from USO too in the same year due to his sudden back injury. He was on a winning streak (24) before withdrawing from USO and was almost in tears because he really didn't want to miss US Open too.

And despite schooling Agassi in the 1999 Wimbledon final in straight sets, Sampras still went on to lose his No. 1 ranking to Agassi the next day. Had the back injury not happened at that crucial time just 2 two weeks before USO (I recall it happening during Cincinnati Masters), Sampras would have most like won the USO and would have ended the No. 1 ranking for the 7 straight years since he also won the year-end beating Agassi and after coming back from injury that kept him away from tennis a few month that year.

And after 1999, after that back injury, Sampras was never the same player again. In fact, he played with a lot of pain both at Wimbledon and USO after that but he would never openly talk about it so no one really knew. His pain so much at times that not only he was unable to practice before a big mach but he would also think about withdrawing during a Slam (especially at Wimbledon) at times but he kept on going despite all that.

He was as great a player as it can be who came through so many adversities and obstacles in his life and remained quite about most things.  His parents and family lived from pay check to pay check and yet this little young man had a very big dream and he pursued it like nothing else.
