In the meantime, Cilic has taken the 1st set 6-3. Cilic breaks Nishikori again in the 2nd set to get the 2-1 lead. Crowd sounds very disappointed. lol
Nishi looks a bit nervous and with more errors. Cilic is the same as before.
The way Cilic demolished Berdych was quite astonishing. He had 46 winners and 19 Aces. Berdych didn't even know what hit him until he lost. lol
Cilic had less Aces and winners against Federer but still he played his 2nd best there - 13 Aces and 43 winners overall.
Crowd is clearly behind Nishikori because I have no doubt most them are Federer fans out there hoping to see Federer but now they are stuck with Nishikori and Cilic. lolol. No wonder they are going to be behind Nishikori.
Some of the fans are even clapping on Cilic's missed 1st serve and no clapping when he wins a point. Pathetic fans. So utterly predictable. Don't even care for a good match. All they can spit out is pure venom.
Holy cow! 4 aces from Cilic. He's not even on fire. lol
Cilic wins the 2nd set as well but did drop a service game but broke Nishikori again to take the 2nd. I do think Nishi is feeling heavy on those legs. He had one marathon match after another to come this far. He's probably both mentally and physically spent. The only time I see him winning if Cilic gets off course in this set.
What a sweet story this Cilic one though. I read about his story a few years back when he first surfaced on the tour. He comes from a very small and poor village. He comes from a poor family too. So it was a luxury for him to play tennis but he had the talent so he stuck with it. It would be so wonderful if he won this Slam. It will be just as sweet as Goran winning his only Wimbledon. I can't imagine the way they'll feel if Cilic wins tonight - both Goran and Cilic of course.
I do feel Nishikori will get plenty chances to play in the finals again - at least 2/3 times more. He's got the mind of steel. Brad Gilbert said the other day that Nishi never knows about the H2H against anyone. He either simply forgets about it or he simply doesn't care. That means he goes into every match no matter who he plays thinking he has a chance and believing he can win regardless. That is one awesome approach and a great mind to have.
Cilic might not get another golden opportunity like this though one never knows. He looks so rock solid here.
Cilic has served 14 Aces so far to Nihsi's 1. And 29 winners to Nishi's 11.
The fact that Cilic got to serve first in this set as well gives him the enormous advantage. And the fact that he's the bigger server does weigh in Cilic's favour heavily. That's all I am saying. I am not even touching his ruthless groundstrokes. lol
The Greatest day in history just unfolded before our very eyes, folks. What a happy day! I cannot be anymore happy for both Nishikori and Cilic. The are the real winners.
Having dinner with friends tonight and yes, lots of wine to go with it. Time to live and time to celebrate!
I'll get back to you all later.
Que pasa princess Emma.
I still can't believe it. I bet the whole world got this wrong.
Nobody was able to predict this outcome.
Yes, they all did herc darling. All the ESPN pundits, all the MTF pundits, all the Tennis Warehouse pundits, all the Tennis Frontier ones etc. That's why I always say that the past is not necessarily a sure indication of the future. If so, we would be living in a very repetitive world - not to mention a very boring one. That's a very materialistic view of things because clearly the future or whoever has something completely different in its plan that we see from time to time.
I really wanted to see Wozniacki win yesterday. Oh well...Serena simply overpowers her opponents. Wonder when she'll retire. lol
This Monday Men's final is another retarded effort by the US Open organizers.
This is a tricky match. On the one hand I want Andy to win it, but since he's so up and down I'm not sure how he would do in the subsequent matches. It's really hard because it would be a great confidence boost...I just don't know what to think, but for sure I will be glued to the TV set tomorrow night.
OK, OK, Andy for the win and let the chips fall where they may.
andy's fitness is not where it needs to be.
i watched the match. he fought hard and he gave his all. that is something to be proud of.
i think he is moving in the right direction. he just needs to take his fitness higher.
Andy's fitness is not the problem, herc darling. Though Andy himself is going with it to hide his real weakness. Keep in mind, he broke Nole first in the 1st set and then got broken immediately in the next game. What's his excuse for that? How tired was he at that point when only two games had been played?
And then what about the 2nd set where he got broken again early? How tired was he at that point? Or should he be? He said he fell behind, he had to come back. He then fell behind again, he had to come back again and yadda yadda stuff. You know, these excuses would not fly with me if I were his coach. I would ask him directly right to his face, "but why did you fall behind in the first place? What were your reasons behind those? I seem to remember you falling behind in the match against Tsonga in Toronto too when you were 3-0 up and where the format was only 3 sets? And then I seem to remember you falling behind again against Federer in Cincy where you are 4-1 up in the 2nd. What's your reason for that given that too was a 3 set format? And what about the 1st set TB against Nole at the US Open where you were able to win only 1 point? How tired were at that early stage of the match? So do not give me all these crap. The problem is your serves and therefore, your level of confidence is in question here. You are too happy. Too content. So unless you change your mentality about your approach there will be all sorts of fitness issues in your head and no amount of fitness training will get you the results you seek. So let's not pretend. I am not an idiot. And you are not hiding anything either."
I love you bits and pieces though, Andy. Just admit that you don't have the same desire as before. Perhaps you will gain it back at some point but right now, it's not there. So do us a favour and stay quiet. I don't want to be overprotective about you.
OMG - CILIC THE 2014 US OPEN WINNER!! IN STRAIGHT SETS!
Oh I so feel for my Nishikori. My poor baby. He's my 3rd favourite player right after Andy and Nole but Cilic really needed this one. And he was also fresher of the two by a long margin. Though he too had a 5 setter against Simon and a 4 setter against Anderson. But Nishikori of course had the toughest road. Now though, they both have beaten 3 top ten players.
A song dedicated to Nishikori but you will come back, I have no doubts. You have the mind of a Champion so you must come back. It's breaking my heart to see his speech...

Okay, I off my soapbox now. Hope you enjoyed my rant and my raw emotion regarding these two players that I love so much. And my love for some Federer trolls...okay, okay, phans I suppose.
I will now let you come in and say whatever your want to say. Muahahahhaha.
I need Alex here. He annoys the hell out of me but then again I have a lot of fun with him too. Oh well, it's a twisted world we live in after all.
Okay, looks like I am not finished yet. lol but some or a lot of the Murray fans are just as pathetic. They hate both Federer and Sampras for different reasons of course. Now I don't care about Federer but to imply Sampras was only a servebot really takes the cake. One can safely assume it's only a bitter reaction since Tim Henman couldn't do a thing under Sampras or they just don't know the game they are watching and have on clue on Sampras' game. And if they were keen on finding out - perhaps a bit more information - they would have found out that it's not Sampras but Federer who's sitting with one of the top ten records for Aces (50) in one match (I believe it happened against Roddick at 2009 Wimbledon final).
Do you know what puts them right at the top of the hypocrites category and successfully so? If Andy had the best serves in tennis history, they would have worshiped to no end. That's how a big a bunch of hypocrites they are. I am glad I left that forum. No reason to be with bunch of haters and fans who have no knowledge of the game in the first place.
i watched the final emma.
i cant recall such a dominating performance here in a long time. cilic was just on his game.
he held his nerve and stayed cool, calm, and composed.
nishikori is very good and he is going to have a great future in the sport but he is likely to get overpowered by the big buys who can hit bigger and serve far bigger.
that is what you saw today.
it is tough to win slams when you are short in modern tennis.
6-3, 6-3, 6-3 is just a dominating performance. no other way to slice that apple.
Just made a quick check on other forums. It seems TF, TW and MTF all picked Nishikori to prevail. Coincidence? I don't think so i.e. if you realize by now who rule these boards typically. Now, of course, they think Cilic must be on drugs. I didn't know drugs help you to concentrate hard and makes you serve accurately. Jealous ignorant
****. lol Can't even be happy for a guy who's just won his first ever Slam. I hope that's the end of these phans.
Anyway, as far as I know they couldn't prove a thing against Cilic and had to shorten the silent ban period from 9 months to 4 months. Cilic then asked for an apology but never got one. But of course who cares about that.
Some of the Murray fans are also VERY insecure. They should have more faith in their guy and should be happy for other players when they win. Just pathetic.
