herc, would you be able to change the name of this thread to 'Dreams, OBEs, NDEs and the Paranormal'?
I couldn't do it so I am asking you. Thanks!
Done, Emma.
Sorry, no time to answer to your previous posts for now. I will return.
Thanks Slasher! And long time no see.
Slasher1985,
This is fascinating stuff. I've long been interested in my dreams, but I've often stopped and started over and over.
I'm going to make a copy of this and peruse it at my leisure, because it was a lot of information.
What shocked me was how sleep order can affect your ability to dream.
The only time I remember my dreams is if I do get up and write it down, but I never thought about lying there and keeping my eyes closed to allow the dream to marinate before recording it.
I had a period during the last four years where I was actively dreaming, and even stranger, remembering these dreams and recording them.
Then, the period passed and I forgot all about it.
I'm glad you guys brought this back to my remembrance. You guys are so evolved. I am learning so much more than about tennis here.
I am so glad I came over here. I am spoiled already.
However, one time I was crossing this building and I noticed for the first time that there were some very strong pillars in front of it. It was probably part of the building design I suppose. What bothered me was the fact that I couldn't tell for the life me if they were always there. I thought they were never there and I thought it was the first time I was seeing these pillars in the real world, but they couldn't have made it overnight. That's virtually impossible. And I walk that street every day, so how could I not notice those before? It then begged the question, was I dreaming the same street without the pillars then? Possibly. Or did I just simply not notice these before? So there are things like that happen to me sometimes. On one hand, I am extremely detail oriented; on another, I don't notice it if there's an elephant in the room. Or perhaps my dream state might just be overlapping my real world at times. In any case, it's very interesting to say the least.
I have experiences like this, too. I also feel that I can be extremely detailed oriented, but at other times, I won't notice something that is blatantly obvious. I've never heard anyone else admit to this, so it was good to hear.
I've often attributed this to the fact that my mind is constantly busy and I am always thinking of both future, present, and past things. So, much so that I often miss tangible things that are right in my face.
Interesting thread.
I don't even know why we sleep in the first place let alone dream.
One of my friends had a very meaningful dream. She dreamt she was inside of an old elevator and there was only one button with the number 100 on it. This meant she could only go up and had no other options/buttons available to her. She was hesitant about it at first but at the same time she felt she had to go, so she pressed the button to go up. She had a very bumpy ride on her way up to the 100th floor. Once the door opened she found herself in a very brownish, murky old room. She looked around and noticed no one other than herself. She felt so uncomfortable in this room that it woke her up instantly. Next day she told me about this dream.
Now we just celebrated her birthday (she's turned 34 in November). A week later when she had gone for a physical, she found a couple of cysts in her breasts and she had this dream just before she was told that the cysts are of benign nature. Could be because of course she was worrying too much in between. But still, the dream was very interesting and it felt as if it has much deeper meaning to it.
Last night I had a terrible dream, really terrible. I dreamt my own father who's no more had hired this person (who happens to be the Internal Security Manager at work) to kill me. Next things I see this guy was beating me to death. At one point I managed to run away from him and went straight to my dad who I think was just next door. He was with this person I couldn't recognize at all but felt his presence. I begged my father to leave me alone or not kill me, so that I could be with my brother and sister as they needed me. I am not sure if he had let me go, but I found myself in the bathroom throwing up blood. It seemed the guy who was supposed to kill me did some terrible damage to my body that was causing all this internal bleeding. At that point I woke up I was both deeply hurt and shocked.
Now my relationship with my dad had always been wonderful and he's one of persons in my life that I love the most and miss him a great deal, so this dream doesn't make any sense. And I have great relationship with this Security Manager at work too, so really don't know what to make out of it. Mind boggling stuff to say the least.
Slept like a baby last night. No nightmares or disturbing dreams. Dreams are metaphors however and it is said that nightmares are actually a set of warnings or ...gasp! blessings in disguise.
Did you know that we dream both in REM and non-REM sleep cycles? Non-REM dreams are typically of positive nature and they tend to carry a lot of the stuff from our daily staff. Dreams in REM cycle typically involves the future and future challenges but they are quite melodramatic in their presentation. They say that the cause or the function of the REM sleep is unknown but if you lack it, then you will not be able to learn tasks of complex nature or even understand it. REM sleep happens every 90 minutes in an adult. So if you don't get enough sleep or any sleep at all, then it's likely you are acting out on impulses on a daily basis and perhaps you lack complex reasoning and intellect. You might want to see a doctor in that case. There's a very specific reason why we sleep and why we sleep especially at night.
Did also know that our brain is even more awake in REM sleep than when we are actually awake? And there's a lot more brain activities going on in REM sleep than when we are awake? Do you ever wonder why? In fact, your body is completely paralyzed in REM sleep while your brain is highly active. It's a deep mystery to many scientists and very hard to explore let alone understand it.
