In the first matches of the day, #3 Stan the Man Wawrinka beat #99 Daniel Gimeno-Traver in 3 sets. He steamrolled him in the 1st set 6-0, appeared to take his foot off the pedal and lose focus in the second and DGT was good enough to take full advantage, winning the set 6-3, and push it to a decider. Stan seemed to get his focus back, broke DGT right away in his first service game of the 3rd set, and was very strong on his own serve thereafter. Stan broke DGT for the second time in the set to end the match, 6-3.
In the other match, #43 in the world, Edouard Roger-Vasselin delivered a straight sets upset win over the #26 Marin Cilic, 6-2, 7-6(5). After a fairly good start to the year, winning 2 ATP 250 titles in Zagreb and Delray Beach and a final in the Rotterdam 500, Cilic has come back to earth and just didn't seem to have it today. He served poorly and returned even worse. Credit to ERV for playing well and taking it to Cilic though.
Next up, Robert vs. Berdych, Isner vs. Young, and Janowicz vs. Bautista-Agut. The late and feature match of the day is Nadal vs. Hewitt.
Respectfully,
