- One of my favorite poets -

Because I could not stop for Death
Emily Dickinson, 1830 - 1886

Because I could not stop for Death –
He kindly stopped for me –
The Carriage held but just Ourselves –
And Immortality.

We slowly drove – He knew no haste
And I had put away
My labor and my leisure too,
For His Civility –

We passed the School, where Children strove
At Recess – in the Ring –
We passed the Fields of Gazing Grain –
We passed the Setting Sun –

Or rather – He passed us –
The Dews drew quivering and chill –
For only Gossamer, my Gown –
My Tippet – only Tulle –

We paused before a House that seemed
A Swelling of the Ground –
The Roof was scarcely visible –
The Cornice – in the Ground –

Since then – ‘tis Centuries – and yet
Feels shorter than the Day
I first surmised the Horses’ Heads
Were toward Eternity –

Baltinglass Abbey in County Wicklow was founded in 1198 by Dermot MacMurrough (Diarmait Mac Murchadha), the King of Leinster who brought the Anglo-Normans to Ireland.

The abbey is a Cistercian monastery. Although there would have been many domestic buildings, today little remains other than the ruined church which was built in the 12th century.

Beautiful! I swear I must've had one of my lives in a castle with sheep just outside the walls. I hear the pound of the surf, the mocking of sea birds, and the barking of the dog who herds his clueless charges away from the cliffs.

Yes, beautiful! Thank you Clay!!

Me too, Stella - it's in my blood! It's also wild to wake up, in a huge city like Dublin, to the screeching of seagulls heard throughout the city!
