How bizarre! Who knew the US would elect to play Davis Cup at home on clay.  :o

Emma, I'll definitely need a cup of coffee after reading about that!

U.S.-Britain to play at Petco Park

Updated: November 5, 2013, 7:21 PM ET
Associated Press

SAN DIEGO -- The first-round Davis Cup match between Britain and the United States will be played on a clay court in left field at Petco Park from Jan. 31-Feb. 2.

While organizers haven't decided if it'll be red or green clay, they feel their choice of surface will give the Americans an advantage over Britain, which is expected to be led by defending Wimbledon champion Andy Murray.

"The feeling is that Murray and anyone below him would have trouble on clay," Jeff Ryan of the U.S. Tennis Association said after a news conference on the infield at the downtown ballpark on Tuesday. "It's not their preferred surface. In between now and then, with Andy still recovering from his surgery and going to Australia and playing there, I don't think they'll have a lot of clay-court experience. The home court advantage is right there. That's it. We're used to getting it against us all the time. We're getting much more comfortable on clay."

Organizers haven't decided whether it'll be red clay, which is made from crushed bricks, or on Har-Tru green clay, which is made from crushed stone.

Playing the match on clay probably is a lesser of three evils decision.

Murray is best on the speedier surfaces of hard courts and grass, as evidenced by his Grand Slam titles at Wimbledon this year and the US Open in 2012. But he's not afraid of clay, having trained from his teen years on the slow red surface in Spain. He once reached the semifinals at the French Open, something none of the current crop of American men has come close to doing. In addition to that run to the final four in 2011 -- before losing to Rafael Nadal, which is no shame at Roland Garros -- Murray also made it to the quarterfinals in Paris two other times, in 2009 and 2012.

Capacity will be about 8,000. Some 2,000 permanent seats in the left field stands will be augmented by about 6,000 more in a temporary stadium built around the court.

"I think it creates a lot of excitement," said Bill Kellogg, president of the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club. "Davis Cup is all about crowd and people and cheering, which is not what people usually think tennis is. That national pride, I don't think it gets any greater than it does in a ballpark."

It'll be the first time a Davis Cup match will be played in an open-air ballpark in the United States.

The United States is undefeated in six Davis Cup matches in the San Diego area.

The Britain-U.S. rivalry is the oldest in Davis Cup history, dating to the first competition in 1900, when the Americans beat the British in Boston. The United States last faced Britain in the 1999 World Group first round in England, winning 3-2 when Jim Courier rallied in the fifth match to beat Greg Rusedski in the fifth set, 8-6. Courier, now the U.S. captain, also won in five sets on the opening day of that match, beating Tim Henman in 4 hours, 12 minutes.

The one drawback is that the final day of the match is Super Bowl Sunday.

"We would prefer not to have it conflicting with the Super Bowl, but fact is, it will be largely decided by the time the Super Bowl starts," Kellogg said. "It's really not a huge factor in diminishing the appeal of the Davis Cup. In fact, I think it will turn into a great sports day. You get to watch what could be a dramatic finish to the Davis Cup, followed by the Super Bowl."

That's awesome! I live in San Diego and I will be going, schedule permitting ;)

I am not sure where he is headed. I have not seen him in a while.

he is busy making money nikki.

and I am just the opposite. I like my time off too much so I don't work more than just a few months a year.

I'm also busy making money. That's the reason why I don't stop by that often, hahaha.

Anyway, maybe Javi will tell us more about his plans when he posts here. I just remember he mentioned Brazil and going there for some time.

Hola Nikki, what's up girl? It's good to see you. Your traveling plan is making me jealous. I can't make any plans until 2015, unfortunately, as I have a couple of courses to finish next year and also, I'll be buying my dream house so that's a huge project for me. So no vacation for me.

Have fun in Bosnia! And perhaps take some pictures. Would love to see those.

Also, do you find it hard to learn Croatian? I don't think you are crazy though. It's what you want to do right now so be it.

Hello Emma! I'm fine and you?
It would make me crazy not to have travel plans for a longer time. I'm just a nomad, I think. We bought a house last year but fortunately I shared the costs with my family so I didn't have to put any of my travel plans on hold.

Croatian is hard for me to learn because it is so much different from all the other languages I speak. I'm currently mixing all the grammatical cases because each preposition requires its own case, blah blah blah. I haven't lost interest yet despite of all the difficulties and that is what is important, haha.

I will take some pictures in Bosnia. I took some this summer but I doubt that I have posted any of them. I think I didn't even put them online... Will look through my album later and maybe post some of them.

some girl contacted me on my facebook today.
she said she wants to meet me. I told her to join Camelot elite tennis society and that she and I can chit chat here.

so far I have not seen her here yet.

Maybe she just wants to see you in person? Anyway, has FB become a dating website as well? I mean why would anyone who has yet to see you would contact you? I don't do Facebook. The concept is too old and too pretentious for taste. My sister, on the other hand and not to mention, my other family members, live and die with Facebook. Half of their social interactions revolve around Facebook, Twitter etc. Human beings are a strange bunch.

she must have been incredible. I will see that movie sooner or later.

as for your amazing sig, that is what I think you may want to consider:

a sig of 4-5 awesome actresses: perhaps vivan leigh, Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth taylor, and perhaps one more.

I can do 5 in a single row.

A sig of 5 would be great. I've found 3 pictures so I need 2 more.

But what happened to the forum pictures on the main page? They are all missing.

Not sure what to say about this. I like tennis because it's a an individual game and my favourites have gone from Sampras (American), Hewitt (Australian) to now Murray (British), so DC has no impact on me. I very rarely watch DC matches. In fact, I loath the idea of patriotism and for that reason, it's beyond me to support a player just because he's from a certain country. So I won't be watching it even if Andy plays. Anyway, interesting though that it will be played on clay in a country like US, where hard courts pretty much tend to dominate. So who gets to decide the surface o anyf DS tournaments?

I was find until Tuesday night but since then I am under the weather. I went to bed at 8pm last night as I was feeling really tired and exhausted and fell asleep I believe within 5 minutes. Very rare for me.

What other languages do you know? I knew a guy at Tennis4u named Pacer and he was crazy about learning different languages and he was very good at it. Very good poster too. I think it's a great passion no matter what silly reasons are behind it, so you must be good at picking it up fairly quickly otherwise you wouldn't dare. I have no desire learning another language however I tend to read (translations) and listen to a lot of ancient texts translations but it's more about the content than the language itself of course.

It's alright for me if I am not traveling at the moment. Or for a while. I have some goals and I need to finish those before I can go on extensive tours. I have some plans on those as well.

we are experimenting with a more professional look that is leaner and cleaner.

and we desperately need a logo that signifies our brand.

this is just the first attempt.

now a reader can glance at the whole page in a fraction of a second.

pictures made the page look busy and cluttered. also pictures tend to be subjective so it is possible some people may have not liked them.

we will continue to tinker around until we just the most optimal look and format for us.

I also started a new category called "in search of excellence".

I can tell that our readership is increasing slowly and surely. also we reached a cool milestone. we are at 32 members now. everybody counts and they are an integral part of this cool tennis society.

I hope you are feeling better soon.

I am just now making home. I need to check the news on the sports front and stuff and then I will fix myself a drink.

cheers emma.

I was reading about coffee earlier today. there was something about it in the newspaper.

coffee is really good for you:

1. it helps your body fend off cancer of the colon, prostate, mouth and the lining of the uterus by switching on your body`s defenses and helping to keep your body's sugar processing system humming.

2. it also fends off diabetes

we will continue to explore ideas and to try to learn. we have a long ways to go.

we have to have a cool logo to start promoting and establishing our brand.

these are all small steps that will take us to where we want to go.

no telling what look and format we will come up with that suits Camelot elite tennis society perfectly.
but we know we will get there one day.

this logo color does not really match the color of the forum. also that banner does look a bit out of place. I try to put some light blue touch in it but it still looks goofy.

this was the only one I could find that had 1/2 decent resolution.

I tried making a banner but that again leads to the same issue: poor resolution.

as a matter of fact, once I saw her email, I never even bothered to reply.

I use  facebook to advertise for Camelot elite tennis society for the most part.

I am trying to let others know about us.

other than that I don't really talk to people all that much on facebook. I chat with nikki on facebook once in a while.
