Both Gulbis and Dimitrov are top ten material in my opinion. I personally prefer Gulbis. Don't believe in 2nd coming.

Andy is only favourite on paper because of his past history - 2 times slams champion etc. but his current form is another matter as he's quite vulnerable to lose to basically anybody.

Anyway, just finished watching a bit of Nadal/Dolgo match. From what I saw, Nadal didn't play very smart tennis against a very unpredictable Dolgo. He gave him a lot of short balls for a start and Doglo was all over those balls. And also, he let Dolgo play well inside the baseline a lot and that pretty much kept Nadal constantly on the run. He was taken out of his comfort zone a lot and for that reason, he wasn't allowed to do what he usually does - dictate the points with this forehand and put as much topspin as possible.

Rafa is just out of it at the moment. I saw a few of his pics on twitter. he looked distraught and dejected even before one of his practice sessions.

I hope he manages to get off the hard courts ASAP and go strengthen that back. he also has to get on clay asap.

that is the deal with a heavy topspin game. it requires constant work. you cant afford to miss a single day of practice.

nadal proved to the world that he can win on the hard courts last year but now its time to back off or else this back issue is going to end his career.

Nadal can of course win on hard courts. They are not that fast like the 90s anyway. And also, when you play this long and you are a champion, you are bound to win some here and there as well - even on your worst surface. Once Andy's career ends, I am sure he'll end up with a few clay titles - just like Sampras.

But what if Nadal loses on clay, say, to Nole or to any other top ten players who are capable of pulling upsets occasionally?

In any case, I do think Nadal suffers from bad losses sometimes.

Oh we are expecting about 10 cm of snow tomorrow. Sucks...this is almost mid-march and winter is still going just as strong.

I should move to Vancouver.

suddenly this clay season has become the single most important clay season for Rafa.

especially since he is in the hunt for the slam record. he is too close to it.

he will most likely tie and surpass Federer if he can bag RG that is coming up soon enough. that will make it 14 slams for him.

so 3 in the next 2-3 years are very do-able if he can keep himself healthy.

I watched Blue Jasmine on Friday night. It's a recent Woody Allen movie. Very well acting by all however the movie had a few flaws. Cate Blanchett was right to win the Oscar for her main role I must say. It was light as usual but serious in parts.

Yes, but you know that didn't come very easy to Federer either as Nadal kept beating him in every Slam and until he was taken out by Soderling at RG, was Federer allowed to break Sampras' record. It's a bittersweet deal for both.

I am getting ready to go shopping. I am also having lunch with mom and dad at Hollywood Casino.

they arrived yesterday but will be leaving today after lunch.

lot to do today but it is also raining like hell here. I need to go get a bit of a haircut also.

I hate haircuts. I end up losing some of my Herculean strength for a day or so by letting somebody cut my hair.

But Vancouver is so beautiful with the ocean and the mountains etc. and all. Just breathtaking. One of the most beautiful places on earth. I'll move to Florida when I am 65.  They say it's a place for older people.  ;D

In that case, I wish I was the haircutter. I would have cut it in a manner that would make you lose all your Herculean strength. I would have made a mere mortal.

Anyway, don't be so silly. lol

Cilic dismissed Robredo 6-4, 6-3.

On another news, Federer is set to have ...gasp! twins again.

Hi Guys, I am back. Got back actually yesterday late afternoon but I was feeling sick so wanted to rest up a lot. Called in sick today too since I don't feel I've recovered completely.

Good to be back and about to watch Andy's match.

Hope you guys are doing well. Anikh, sorry to hear about your flu. Hope you are feeling much better by now.

For sure, losses are a part of life, you can't know the depth of victory unless you have also tasted defeat. Nadal will be fine. One day. One match. It wasn't too bad and I do like Dolgopolov. Plus, unlike many in tennis land I don't necessarily enjoy watching Nadal and Murray, because I'm too sad for whoever loses.

Hey Emma, welcome back. Did you have fun? Glad to hear you took a day off since you weren't feeling well. I used to build that extra day in at vacation time because I would be so wiped out when I got back.

Hola TT! Yes, had a lot of fun to the point it kind of sucked after we got back home. Anyway, it was a short trip so it didn't suck totally. haha.

The extra day really helped especially given that we were always on the go and towards the end, I kind of ran out of breath because of the cold issues I am having lately.

Hope you guys coping well with Nadal's loss. We haven't' seen a good win by Andy for a long time now so if he wins just one more match, we are utterly grateful. lolol

It's probably the food. Many of the casinos have world renowned chefs and their food is really good.

I know a lot of people who go to the casino for food, not the gambling.

I am sure it is but what I did notice after my handful visits to the Casinos, it's usually the older crowd who are glued to the slot machines (at least). And in fact, when we got out of the Casino I noticed there were screens on the side of the entrance wall, where they kept showing all the winners from the past and believe it or not, they all were at least 65+ years old (or at least looked that age). So that was purely based on my observation after a few visits.
I actually have no idea if herc's parents play at the Casino or not. Because he mentioned his parents and the Casino, it just reminded me my experience there just the other night.

I did wonder about all those past winners as I was walking back to my hotel and wondered how much they had to lose before they won those amounts and how much they lost after they won. They don't advertise those information so I find it very misleading.

My friend told me that she doesn't care about how much she's going to lose since she was only there to have fun, so losing money was a non factor for her. While I didn't go there particular to win or even lose, I did not have the mentality of losing and perhaps that's why I ended up winning too. And it was still fun. To each her own I guess but the mentality does play into it but perhaps not all are aware.

Oh Emma, you crack me up. Those are the kinds of thoughts I have all the time. I can see myself noticing the age of the winners and then wondering how much they lost before they won too.

I guess we always question the whys and the motivations of things and you're right, so many people don't.

It reminds me of when I was younger and the things people would say about things like shopping, jewelry, etc., and I would be curious as to why they felt that way. I would say, why? And they'd look at like I was crazy, and they'd say because..., and I'd be like, because what? and then they'd say, just because..., and after awhile I figured that they couldn't explain why they liked or did a certain thing and I learned who you can talk to about things. Some people never check their motivations or wonder why they feel a certain way, while I can't stop thinking about the wonderful world of observations.

If a person asks me why I feel a certain way about something I can answer in great detail because it's based on my experiences, but throughout life I have met many people who cannot answer any questions regarding why they believe something is so. It's interesting.
