morning sports fans. just waking up here.

fresh coffee in the process of being made.

this is quite a surprise: andy and lendl have ended their coaching relationship.

I wonder who would be next for Andy.

Looks like Andy and Lendl split for good.

I personally believe Andy will be fine without Lendl from this point on. Lendl was more of a mental coach anyway and Andy has already converted that demon in 2012.

I've read a lot of speculations today but I don't agree with any one of them. Unfortunately, Lendl and Andy are no longer on the same page. Andy goals and Lendl's goals are just not matching. And I am actually with Lendl with this one. He's a guy who won 8 Slams when tennis was seeing the golden age and he remained No. 1 for four years (270 weeks). So he basically lived on thriving on the individual success. Andy, on the other hand, is all about his country. His recent decision to dump MC and play DC speaks volume. In fact, since last year, I realized that his goals have changed and it's now more towards doing things for his country than it is anything else. It sounds noble but when it comes to tennis which is mainly an individual sport, it loses its meaning. Now I don't read everything Lendl says but I will be damned if he was okay with any of Andy's decision be it the surgery or giving priority to DC when he should be really focusing on improving his clay record.

This reminds me of Sampras so much since I'd supported him just as much. It was so easy to support him since his goals always remained the same and he never got off course no matter what. While he did play DC and won it too, it was never his priority and that's how it should be for a player who guns for higher things. Clearly Andy is not that person and Lendl just slowly became aware of it.

I am not particularly happy with Andy right now either. I support him because he's an individual tennis player to me first and I don't care which country he represents. I will watch him carefully this year and will observe how things go. Based on that, I'll be able to form a much better decision whether to continue to support him or not. I can't help but feel that Andy only wants to focus on certain tournaments that involves his country the most and even if it comes at the price of him sliding down the ranking. Since I don't care about DC or the country stuff, I am just finding it very hard to adjust his new goals, that is, if my speculations are true. That's not why I watch tennis.

I don't see Andy regretting his decision but on the other hand, Lendl must be at least a bit disappointed even if the decision, say, came from him finally.

Time will tell, of course.

this is a brutal sport emma. it is just taking Andy some time to get back in the saddle after the back surgery. he suffered for 18 months because of the bad back and he endured a lot of pain.

I think Andy will be fine. he just has to win some matches now and start gathering steam and momentum going into the queens event in London.

as for Lendl, he really has way too much on his plate. I am surprised it lasted as long as it did.

That's the superficial explanation of things. Surely you don't expect both to come out and say, 'oh, but we've recently disagreed on a few things and now decided to part away'?

But yes, Andy will be fine no matter what kind of goals he sets out for himself. He's just choosing a different path. It was always a bit of a question mark, for me anyway, how Andy was going to unfold after winning Wimbledon. We are just witnessing it right now.

Lendl suddenly can't afford to have so much on his plate when not so long ago he said he'd be with Andy until the end of his career. Not to mention his other comment where he said Andy's game is suitable for winning RG.  Clearly he had plans for Andy.

Not sure why he was there in the first place to be honest. Keeps pulling out at the last moment.

Becker is still in the picture for Nole. I just cant see that relationship lasting much longer.

I wonder who will make the best coach for Andy.

If Lendl feels he can't motivate Andy anymore and if Andy feels satisfied after his Olympics and Wimbledon titles, then Lendl is more than likely to walk away. Andy, after all, hasn't won one single title since Wimbledon. Not only that, he lost in two Slams back to back in the qtr finals to Wawrinka and Federer. Whereas after winning USO in 2012 he went on to make the AO final beating Federer on his way. won Brisbane, Miami and Queens before winning Wimbledon. I know the surgery happened in between but that's also the problem, because you really can't tell whether Andy is still motivated or not as it gets really overshadowed by this surgery. But the fact remains, if Andy is really taking time to come around after the surgery and if the surgery is really the thing that's holding Andy back, then it begs the question - why would Lendl leave at a time like this citing all sorts of nonsense? Makes no sense when the same person vowed to stay with Andy  until the end of his career. Unless this somehow is the end of career? Has Andy hinted something to Lendl? We don't know but as I said earlier, time will tell.

If Andy is not motivated then he'll be unable to defend his title at Wimbledon. We can't really play this surgery card anymore. It just feels like a cover up of what actually is going on. I wouldn't blame Andy AT ALL if he does indeed feel satisfied, Hey, it's his life and he has suffered enough and it is ultimately his decision. God knows it isn't easy to be a British player especially for a guy like Andy, who seems to keep such a low profile. Who isn't as flamboyant as Beckham or as fleshy as some other Brits.

Anyway, I am very sad about all this because I really adored this pair and it felt as if it was a match made in Heaven. Andy looked like Lendl's son most of the time and vice versa. And I remember how much fun they had together just before winning Wimbledon at Queens. We'll just have to wait until the end of this year.

But change is good. Change is for the better if that's what in the card. In that case, I do think Andy will benefit greatly who knows a thing or two about the serves. The mentality is there but a bit of technicality on the serves is still required. He really needs to make his 1st serve more consistent to the point when he's not feeling confident or mind is not there, he can still rely on it. And he can always choose to disguise his 2nd serve. Placing it wisely would be far more helpful than the power but ideal would be to serve a high percentage of 1st serve regardless so that he wouldn't have to go to his 2nd serve.

Well, it can't really be anyone who has already coached Andy; and it also can't be anyone he is too comfortable with, say, a family member. It has to be someone brand new and someone Andy respects. Someone who's both technically and mentally equally strong. That person can bring something totally new to the table for Andy.

A few pictures of Andy and Lendl. I hate that it had to come to an end. It was the 2nd most beautiful partnership I've seen in tennis right after Pete/Tim. I am so sad that I will not get to see this anymore.

Here's looking at you, kiddo:
