Just watched Federer, Murray etc. on CP24. They asked Roger about Ranoic and Murray on his new coach situation. The answers were typical so not going to dwell on that.

I noticed on the Rogers Cup Toronto website, they highlighted some of the upcoming matches. Tsonga is playing on Monday night, Federer on Tuesday night, Nole got the day session on Wednesday (yay) and Raonic on Wednesday night. No sign of Andy's match yet so I am a little disappointed. Why Tsonga and not Andy?

Anyway, all of today's qualified rounds have been completed but still no Order of Play yet for tomorrow. I need to speculate things so that I can guess when Andy will be playing his first match. I am miffed but I need to be patient. Weather is so-so. It may hold up in the end but we are getting thunderstorms a lot almost one per day. There are chances of rain almost every day this coming week but it's not going that way as we remain dry for the most part of the day judging by past weeks.

Wow Emma, you never cease to amaze me with your postings. Yes, I have been a fan of Murray's since he came on the scene. There is an openness and honesty that he brings to the table. With Andy, there is no smoke and fire. He's comfortable with himself, and that's a very admirable trait. I think he's smart, funny, and personable; someone I'd like to be friends with. And his on court genius never ceases to amaze me. I simply love the way Andy plays the game.

Andy, I don't worry about, because he's such a reflective person, and I know that no matter what happens, he'll be able to take it in stride. He's already accomplished one of the most important deeds of the century, breaking that 70 year drought, but I also expected him to let it soak in, rather than immediately seeking more glory. I do think he wanted to do very well at RG this year, but that was not for the sole purpose of winning it, but to ensure that it would not be a future blot or obstacle in his career. He may appear laid back, but inside beats the heart of a champion, it's just not an in your face type of champion and many people struggle to see the difference. Andy just approaches the game on an intellectual level, and for those who do so, the journey is different.

I had to laugh at your favorite players to follow, because I also followed those three. I received a lot of flack about Lleyton and my support of him throughout his career, but of course I didn't care. Lleyton's belief in himself was a huge draw for me. For him to be among giants, due to his small stature, and achieve the things he did is nothing short of remarkable. His ability to step out of the limelight and give credit to those who came after him is also remarkable. Like you, I don't care who the current "next big thing" is, I like who I like based on the traits they possess and the benefit it is to me.

I don't have to say anything about Pete. You already know how I feel about him. Pure class.

Yes, Andy's very clear on that. There's not much controversies around him although British media do try their best to stir things up at times and speculate too much about nothing, but those rumours tend to fade away on their own since they don't hold much water to begin with.

I know, that's how cool Andy is. He doesn't fall for the dumb stuff. He's also brutally honest. Andy is a genius and many people don't understand his psyche. I agree that Andy would rather play an intelligent match rather than rely on attrition, flashiness, or physicality. That's the good thing about being a fan, understanding the player's psyche and approach to the game. I like a player when both of those things mesh. Everything about Andy's personality suggests he would play the game that way. It amazes me that people don't see that. Most importantly, Andy is in tune with himself, and that is a very attractive quality.

I highly agree with you on the 2nd bolded part. Andy does approach the game quite intelligently - something th at most fans don't actually understand. You know, if meteoroids or any other forms of debris hit the earth, we'd be the first ones to go because we are such fragile beings. And yet, we are the ones who have survived the longest on the planet. And not only that, we have supreme control over all other species on this earth. We know how to protect ourselves and prosper. So what has made us survive all these years despite our physical limitations with essentially no weapons to fight off anything including the weather.

So clearly it's our intelligence first and foremost that has helped us thus far. So it's never the survival of the fittest but always the survival of the smartest or wisest. Tennis itself is a very intelligent game; in fact, perhaps the most intelligent physical game of all. When Philosophers, Spiritual Leaders, even Scientists speak of any sport to show it as an example, they speak of tennis. The other non-physical game they refer to is chess (goes without saying). If tennis was played on the intellectual level then Andy would have always Aced it, but it doesn't play on that highly intellectual level as a lot of the players rely on the power these days rather than on the skills and executing those skills. And today's fans dig that because they like it fast and destructive otherwise they get bored. The thing with Andy is, he refuses to play aggressively because he finds it one dimensional an dumb, so he keeps on playing relying on his brain more. Amelie used to be a very good intelligent player though mentally she wasn't very strong but she played smart tennis. Those were the years though, alas. But you can see why Andy has hired her as a coach.

Good to know you are a Lleyton fan too. :) People have only warmed up to him now but back then, he was the least popular player. But these guys - both Hewitt and Safin - had knocked Sampras off from the USO finals to their credit back then and now, just take a look at today's young generation. They are now in their early to almost mid-20s and still struggling to make past the qtr finals of any Slam. The mental aspect of things in players have stopped since 2003. We have not seen any breakthrough by any youngsters since then with the exception of Nadal. Speaks a great volume about this past and current era.

I thought that was stupid how people turned against Lleyton, but I feel it's because many people are easily influenced. Lleyton has always been honest, aboveboard, and respectful of his opponents. That goes a long way with me. In fact, that's the one trait that I despise the most, is when players are disrespectful of other players. Just play the game, I don't have time for mind games and manipulations. Even when they tried to blow up that "racist" comment with Blake, I thought they were being silly. Maybe he shouldn't said, but it was plausible that what he said really was true. Now, people are warming back up to him simply because the commentators have changed their tune. It amazes me how many people don't take the time to process anything and instead rely on others to do their thinking for them.

We had seen breakthroughs by Michael Change at 17, Becker at 17, Sampras at 19 and quite a few others from the mid 80s to early 00s and that happened when tennis still had loads of variety, which itself was so much more challenging. We don't see that trend anymore.  It's just not the same anymore. I now very rarely watch WTA because the one dimensional game bores me to death. Where's Steffi, Monica, Lindsey, Hingis, Pierce, Henin, Mauresmo, Clisjters etc. and so many other great players with their different styles and contrasts? Those were the days. Today's female players just strike me as clones - robots if you will. Too physical for my taste. Men aren't far behind either. If it wasn't for Andy, I would have stopped watching tennis a long time ago.

The WTA definitely was better back then, but what I do enjoy about the women's game is that many times you can't predict the result. Except for Serena, but Serena is in a class of her own.

I know you think like a man, which is why it's easy for me to relate to you. You don't accept societal norms so much, and instead choose your own path. It's funny though in real life, the reactions you get, especially when you look feminine and appear to be a certain type of girl. Then when men realize that you're more than a girl, you're a woman, they seem confused and not sure how to deal with you.

Do you get that type of reaction from the masculine sex? I do. They always say, "you're so different" with a perplexed look. It's like, "I like it, I think." ROFL!

I am very feminine looking as well. So at first the guys treat me just the way they treat all other women. It takes them a while to get who I really am and often times, they don't make it that far. But it's also true that I don't go all gung ho on them initially. I have the tendency to unfold slowly (in person) and I will unfold a lot if I am genuinely interested in them but often times, I am not so I don't bother. So I don't think there's anyone out there who knows even a slice of me. lol

But there were incidents where some people did say straight to my face that I might just be from another planet or another time or another dimension or something to that effect - mainly because they could not figure me out at all. I've always taken those as compliments. I never expect them to get me anyway. :)

I am glad you are different too in your own unique way. You've made a difference for yourself. :)

I have the same experience, Emma, especially as it pertains to men. They usually spot it quickly and seem perplexed. But, I love it, because they understand very quickly that I won't be putting up with crap for the sake of having a man. It takes someone special to really pique my attention. Intellect is a number one priority. But, I have been very fortunate in the area of mates, (except for that last one). He wasn't a bad guy, but we were never going to be on the same page. He was too concerned with materialism and keeping up appearances. We get along very well, but never again.

In my other long term relationships I was extremely blessed. My first husband was the best person I have ever met in my life, and my first boyfriend ran a close second. My first husband died prematurely and TBH I don't think I would ever find anyone who measured up to him. He was that kind, funny, and considerate.

Wow, I say (the bolded) all the time. So many times people don't realize the difference between a female and a woman, or a man or a male. It does confuse the opposite sex when a woman has substance.

Is she from ABBA? I vaguely remember their music, but do know how big they were at that time. I like Debbie Harry too. She was on What What Happens Live not too long ago, and she was such a delightful person. Very open, honest, and funny.

Yes, she is from ABBA and represents the first letter of ABBA. She's my favourite singer of all time. Debbie I will put third since I put the other ABBA member Anni-Frid as my 2nd all time favourite singer. I am really not the Whitney Houston or Celine Dion or Mariah Carey type. I prefer Duffy or Amy Winehouse much more. Not at all into Adel or Britney or Katie Perry or Beyonce etc. etc.

I mainly follow rock singers and they are mostly male. Music is my first love. Can't live without it!

I'm not into music much. But, my musical tastes tend to be on the eclectic side. I like Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan, Cher, Dolly Parton, and Roberta Flack.

Strangely, I've never bought much music from women, but tend to focus on male singers. The women that I like are empowering, I don't like songs about women pining after men.

I agree. He is also ready. Andy will surprise in NY. I'm glad because I can still enjoy the Open, even if Rafa doesn't play.

Ah, the ABBA girls - voices of angels and cuties in their prime.  Both among my favourite female vocalists.  I'll post more thoughts about them - but the thread will be in the Camelot Not Single but Married thread.  Nobody is allowed to post in there apart from me.

Hope you are enjoying Toronto Emma. Yes want that rain to stay away as much as possible.

Understood regarding more protection :-). A bottle of water and sandwich is fine. I may even extend it to a bag of chips if needed :-). No seriously if I am on that trip will do my best to make things as settled as they can be for you.

Hope you are right on Andy prediction Clay. I think this is a journey into unknown regarding how he will do. I just hope we see that 100% focused and determined Andy. If so he is hard to beat.

Ha ha ha. I am legally married, but separated. Does that mean I am allowed in the thread? I realize that there are rules, and then there are Camelot rules, LOL!
