he is just putting off the surgery which is a matter of surgical emergency.

don't know why he is doing this since it is so risky to compete with this condition.

for instance, it can lead to sepsis and other complications.

also by waiting until after London, he will be forced to miss the Australian Open.

what the hell is he trying to prove by going to Switzerland? he will win 2 matches at best or may not even win one.

antibiotic treatment had to be heavy so the body is already weakened significantly.

Why would he put the surgery off, herc? I thought or was told by many Rafa fans that it's Uncle Toni who gets to decide everything as far as Nadal is concerned. His book even implies that. Surely then Uncle Toni would have some say over such serious matter? Is he going with the same decision then?

Anyway, this is such a routine and simple surgery though. I don't have the stats available but I know that it's a very common procedure. Andy's back surgery was far more career threatening - something that he had to put it off until he won Wimbledon. He played through the back pain all these years. Nadal has no reason to go through that so it's rather baffling. And his entry in Basel makes no sense.

I heard he's withdrawn from WTF. Is that confirmed? Why play Basel then? So stupid, honestly, if true.

extremely stupid decision if you ask me. it is risky beyond belief.

lets just say he wins a match and then there is injury in the 2nd match. what will he have accomplished by that.

it could not only kill his chances for next year, it could even end his career.

he has a very demanding style of play. given the weakened condition of the body and definitive drop in fitness, he has absolutely no business competing right now.

Sometimes it's just hard to understand the mindset of certain sports athletes - especially without knowing all the inside stories and details. There were times I didn't understand some of Andy's decisions. I still don't understand why he's hired Mauresmo of all people for instance.

Regardless, Basel entry still looks stupid though he has a nice draw. Only Gulbis can give him some trouble (and Roger-Vasselin perhaps) but I am not sure he'll make the qtr. Raonic is of course capable but he's doubtful as well.

Even Federer poses danger since Rafa hasn't shown much credibility during this time of the year regardless, so it's all very tricky. Doesn't look like a very ideal scenario to be honest but you Rafa fans must take a leap of faith and trust your guy's decision.  Hopefully he knows what he's doing.

left untreated, this condition can lead to sepsis.

and a whole host of other complications.

my position was this:

the body is significantly weaker now since he took powerful antibiotics for 5-6 days. that weakened state can lead to injury because of his very demanding style of play.

we will talk more about this tomorrow.

Have you heard? Nole is now a proud papa! Jelena has given birth to a lovely baby boy. Congrats to both!

Paris might be out of the question for Nole now but perhaps WTF is still within the possibility.

Oh God I had to go and find out what sepsis is all about. lol but you learn something new everyday. Doesn't sound very pretty, no. I am sure the body is weaker due to powerful antibiotics but I just have serious trouble believing that he'd take that much risk to his health given how ambitious he is. Also, think about all the time he's taken off in the past from time to time just to heal the injuries and perhaps rejuvenate, so I feel there just might not be as much danger in it as much we are making it out to be. I, for one, don't believe at all that Nadal is that dumb. Or Uncle Toni.

Also, he's won his match yesterday in straight sets. If he was any weaker he would have struggled physically which he didn't. What's your thought on that?

Maybe he wants to finish the year ranked 2 so that he can have a better start come 2015. There are only 2 tournaments left after this after all - Paris and WTF - so maybe he's stretching it even physically. Could just be part of the plan. Maybe he'll get the surgery done right after.

Just spent 10 minutes reading back some of my old posts from last time and correcting mistakes. I rush so much when I post and that causes a lot of mistakes. I should always read before I post. Oh well. Saying is so easy than doing it. Patience is not my virtue by any means!

Anyway, I was wrong about Andy's schedule. He had today off too. He's opening tomorrow against Melzer. Shouldn't be a problem, really though Melzer is just coming off winning a doubles title just last week.

melzer is a good player with a big lefty topspin forehand. he also returns well.

his main issue: age

he has to be pushing 33 by now.

not everybody that old can deal with the top players in the game.
