very big upset: Roberto Bautista Agut removes del potro from the facilities.

I did not see this coming.

andy, rafa, and Federer are shaking and baking.

some people call his forehand "the hammer".

I think that dude Kieran at tennis frontier might have been one of them.

I just thought "the hammer" might be a catchy title for a thread.

Oh, no worries. I just wanted to know what it implied. Nadal does have a very hammer like effective forehand. ;D

he missed quite a few of them while I was watching anyway. I saw the first set and a few games of the second set.

I think I counted at least 10-11 unforced errors. and they were all easy ones.

he just needs to put in more practice time.

his court positioning and his return also suck. so he will have to fix that as the tournament wears on.

Btw, our coverage doesn't start tonight until 10pm. In any case, I don't see myself waking up for Andy's match tonight, unfortunately. I must get enough sleep/rest. The last few weeks had been brutal and I am finding myself incredibly disoriented this week - not to mention, sleepy. But I will be up for his 3rd round match. Haven't seen much of AO anyway. The time difference really sucks for most of us who live in NA I suppose.

affirmative. time zones are not working out for me either. nadal's first match got delayed. I was up forever.

I will just have to make use of Camelot cetsvids tennis video center more for the matches that I want to watch. at least that way I can then catch them at my own leisure.

the best slam for us in terms of time is the u.s. open.

well at least we will have indian wells and Miami masters on our own terms. these will be coming up soon enough.

I was really out of it last night because I thought Andy's match was the first one on Rod Laver arena but it was the 2nd match and it didn't actually start until 6am my time this morning. I was getting ready for work at that time so was able to watch a bit of the 1st set. I followed rest of the scores (for all) when I was making my commute to work. So I noticed the ups and downs of the Cilic/Simon match and saw Delpo struggling (got broken first in the 3rd set as well) and saw Andy out of nowhere getting broken each time in the 3rd set to get behind as bad as 1-5. I also saw Verdasco leading 2-1 but then I had breakfast meeting with some of my co-workers and wasn't able to finish most of the matches. But I was able to finish Andy's before that. After falling 1-5 behind, he didn't spend much time coming back and finishing it, so that was good to know.

During Andy's match, I was also looking at the stats of Andy's match. His serves weren't there at all. After the 1st set and during the 2nd set, he only had 1 Ace and 4 DFs. And he had only 47% first serve in. So servingwise he was doing pretty bad as opposed to his 1st match. Or even the one against Hewitt just last week. He picked up later in the 2nd but dropped the ball again in the 3rd. So very topsy turvy that one was. He had a lot more control over Millot's game but his own game was off mainly because of the faulty first serves.

He really doesn't have anyone on this path right now to really challenge him. And if Murray doesn't make the semi and if he's not healthy yet, then it's more than likely that Nadal make the final. Federer will probably go out to Tsonga but even so, he doesn't stand a chance either way.

You can see that Nadal's path is now easier than Nole's because Nole has Wawrinka to deal with in the qtr final and possibly Ferrer in the semi. They will both make him work harder and in this heat, it's not ideal for him.

For Federer, an easy draw is what he needs right now the most in any Slam and for Nadal on hard at least, it's the same deal and grass seems to be trickiest for him regardless but mostly perhaps because of the clay season just prior.

its still early. andy needs a couple of more matches under his belt before we can get a better idea of his form.

same for nadal.

nole is the only one who is bringing the best form. he has won 22-23 matches in a row. he looks the sharpest of them all.
