nishikori is far more talented than I ever thought lady TT. he just keeps surprising the tennis world.

Yes he is. He's a mini-Nole. If not for his height and weight he would be even more formidable. I like Kei; he's got belief, talent, and perseverance.

Uh oh, Australia in doubt for Rafa.

Spaniard will not return until December

Nadal undergoes stem cell treatment on his back 11/09/2014

Rafael Nadal's uncle and coach, Toni Nadal told the DPA news agency that the ATP world number three is undergoing stem cell treatment in an attempt to alleviate the back problems that have plagued him all season.
"He's had them for the past six months", said Toni Nadal. "It's stem cell treatment, and doing it properly requires five weeks", he added when explaining why they did not take advantage of the three months between July and October. "Because we all thought that he'd play at the US Open, we were more focused on his wrist injury, which looked to be healing well".

Nadal picked up his back injury in January at the Australian Open and it went on to plague him for most of the year, said Toni Nadal. "It affected his mood somewhat", he explained with regards to Rafa's back freezing up midway through the final against Wawrinka. "I'm not saying it was completely down to his back, but it's true that he wasn't fit to compete to the best of his ability", he added.

According to his uncle, Nadal has had a "bitter-sweet" season. Aside from the back problems he picked up in January, he also suffered a wrist injury in July which sidelined him for three months. Then he had appendicitis. Nadal is using his time out after the surgery to undergo treatment on his back. "That's why he'll be back in training in December, because the treatment takes five weeks. Either way, he couldn't postpone surgery on his appendix".

the news is not good. I am worried to death.

his back continues to cause problems. I don't think he will be really ready until the clay season.

he also will not stop playing and practicing on the bloody hard courts.

I would have cut back a little by now anyway.

I agree. I don't see him being ready in Australia. There's just not enough time, but he can't just play the clay court season, so what's he supposed to do? It's just messed up if you ask me.

This year was a horrible tennis year for me. It started in Oz when the back went out in the final. Wimbledon, and missing the entire US hard court season. It's amazing that he was able to win The French, but I am eternally grateful for that.

The bad thing is that if he plays the hard court season, does he still win The French? I'm don't know.

My view of 2014 is a dismal one at best. The entire season was beset with weirdness.

Although Stan is a good player, he lacks consistency and believe. He also is showing himself to be an iffy winner.

Novak was distracted the middle part of the year with the baby and the wedding, but he sure came back good.

Andy? I'm starting to scratch my head on him. I'm hoping it was the tiredness, doubt, and emotional pressure. I'll wait to see what 2015 holds for him.

Dmitrov made a breakthrough, but some of the young guns such as Coric, Kyrgios, and Thiem looked hungrier and more confident. Raonic did his best, but outside of the serve, there's a lot of holes in his game.

I have to give the Shining Star to Federer for putting 2013 out of his mind, but don't think it was wise to play as much as he did. What a sad end to the year. I'm glad it's over.

Me too. Hopefully Rafa thrills us yet again. I don't know what I will do when he leaves the game. Tennis is pretty blah for me when any of the Big Four are missing, but especially with Rafa.

right now what is happening is what I predicted would happen over 5 years ago and you can ask general masterclass.

as a matter of fact I predicted this longer than 5 years ago.

for the sake of trying his hand for greater dominance on the hard courts, he would ultimately lose his effectiveness and his domination of the sport.

and he would lose his game. that has happened.

yes we can blame the injuries and the bad luck but he is running 1/2 way to make them happen.

100% of his injuries have happened on the hard courts. he and uncle tony have said countless times that they would cut back a little bit from the hard courts and make some adjustments but they never do.

I can tell you this now lady TT and general masterclass would agree with me:

if he doesn't cut back from the hard court activity now, his career is over. it wont be long that he will drop out of top 10 at the height of his prime.

I am not happy with him. he, not uncle tony, makes most of the decisions. rafa is his own man and does things his own way.

he is an all time great and one of the greatest to ever lift the racquet. his records cannot even be approached, let alone broken.

but he could have been far greater with some adjustments and better focus on his game and his fitness.

he let some of his fitness go which dropped his physicality.

hard courts did the rest. now his game is not as effective. he is even more terrified than ever to go to the net. he is afraid to hit his backhands.

his return has nearly vanished as you saw at Wimbledon.

he has a lot of work to do and now the damn back issue is resurfacing.

I don't know why he had to go to china with an ailing wrist that was not 100%. and then he failed to return promptly to Mallorca to seek treatment for his latest issue.

they have 34-40 year old players out there who are more fit than rafa now and they are also winning titles.

rafa did not need to let this happen in his prime.

I am his greatest fan ever so that is never going to change but I am not happy with him.

I hope you're wrong and Rafa thrills us yet again. I am too fearful of predicting anything with Rafa. His entire career hasn't gone according to plan. Whatever happens; he's had a wonderful career.

Rafa will get back to his domination on clay lady TT.

that is where it has to start again for it to carry over to other surfaces.

he is going right back to the hard courts. and that is the problem. there is just no point in chasing points and the top rank right now when he cant even get on the courts, let alone practice and train.

I would be devastated and so would he if the wrist injury and the back injury resurface on the hard courts again leading up the Australian open.

that means no rafa in 2015.

back is causing problems already. so he has to think very hard to try to come back on the hard courts right now.

I hope it all works out; I really do. It's so sad for someone to be so talented, willing, and determined and be betrayed by their bodies like that. It reminds me of Haas and del Potro, two other guys who have never been able to catch a break.

Sometimes, IMO, people try to find a "reason," but I think that's just the way the cookie crumbles. Some things are meant, and some things are not.
