It is an afternoon match thank goodness. it will be warmer which is good for rafa.

I think young is improved. he will force rafa to hit more balls. sijsling is not that consistent off the ground and he too had not played and practiced much.

this is the match we need. we need to hit more balls.

I think rafa will take it but it might be close.

This is exactly how I see it too. I expect Rafa to get through though, because he will not allow Donald to get away with those momentary lapses. I think Rafa will be up for this match. I'm glad it will be warmer too, that should help. In a little time he is making big gains and is looking more comfortable on the court. This match will give us a better feel for where Rafa is, but one thing is he looks happy and relaxed and that's always a good sign.

It's so good to have him back. Rafa electrifies tennis.

 BNP PARIBAS OPEN 2015
Nadal Has Fun With Friends On Doubles Court
Indian Wells, U.S.A.

by ATP Staff

http://www.atpworldtour.com/News/Tennis/2015/03/11/Indian-Wells-Monday-Nadal-Reaction.aspx

Six of the Top 10 players on the ATP World Tour opted to enter the doubles draw at the BNP Paribas Open. World No. 3 Rafael Nadal is part of that elite group, partnering with countryman Pablo Carreno Busta.

Unlike many singles specialists dabbling in doubles, Nadal has had great success playing with a partner. He joined with another fellow Spaniard, Marc Lopez, to capture the Indian Wells crown in 2010 and 2012. He has already won a doubles title this year in Doha with Juan Monaco.

The key for Nadal is choosing his partners wisely.

“When I am playing doubles I try to do it with good friends,” he said. “Here with Pablo, we are enjoying it. We have fun. We go on court and we try our best, and we can win, we can lose. It's a little bit different than singles. We play more relaxed, and it works a lot.”

Speaking of Nadal’s buddies, the Spaniard will meet up with his former partner in his second-round doubles match on Monday—except Lopez will be on the other side of the net.

When asked why the two aren’t gunning for a third title this year, Nadal laughed as he responded.

“He doesn't want to play with me anymore, so...I need to play against him now,” he said, smiling. “I want all the best for Marc. He's probably my closest friend on tour. It's not a comfortable situation [to play against each other], but at the end, we are professionals.

“We are in the same room here, so we sleep in different beds but together. And that's the sport! For the first time in our career, we are going to play against each other. We are going to try our best and hope it will be a good match.”

As much as Nadal enjoys the more relaxed atmosphere on the doubles court, he is quick to laud the benefits for his singles play.

“Doubles is great practise for singles players,” said the three-time Indian Wells singles champion. “Playing doubles, you practise the serve, you can return a little bit more aggressive, you practise the volley, you practise the movements on the volley.”

But there is one thing Nadal can't practise when he's playing doubles.

“Well, the doubles does not help my golf, because playing doubles, I play less golf,” he explained. “Probably tomorrow I will have the chance to play golf and practise. Playing doubles, I don't get to play golf.

“But, I am here to play tennis. I enjoy playing golf when I have the chance. I had the chance to play a couple of rounds of golf here before the tournament.”

BNP PARIBAS OPEN 2015

Nadal Beats Young For Round Of 16 Against Simon

Indian Wells, U.S.A.

by ATP Staff
  | 17.03.2015

Rafael Nadal eluded a repeat of last year's early exit as he beat Donald Young 6-4, 6-2 in the third round on Tuesday at the BNP Paribas Open.

The Spaniard's loss in the third round last year (l. to Dolgopolov) was his earliest exit here since 2004 (l. to Agustin Calleri).

“Last year is 2014; we are in 2015,” said the third seed, who will face Gilles Simon for a spot in the quarter-finals. “We cannot think about what happened last year in every round and in every tournament. Every year is different."

The three-time champion (2007, '09, '13) hit 8 winners and won six of his eight break point opportunities in his 80-minute victory over Young.

"I like playing here – I love the players, I love the organization, I love the fans here and I feel very comfortable. I'm happy to be in the fourth round… Tomorrow I have a tough match against Simon. He's tough, a good player.”

There were quite a few upsets today. Maria out, Ferrer, and Dmitrov. Rafa's next match will be with Simon, thankfully he has a day to recover. Simon will make him play a lot of balls so Rafa better be ready. A tough customer. Rafa didn't play well today so let's hope he got the bad match out of the way and can now buckle down. Federer beat Seppi just as I suspected, but he didn't look that crisp either. Jack Sock did very well;good for him. But the tennis day turned out pretty good for me, Berdych, Rafa, Serena, and Jankovic.

BNP PARIBAS OPEN 2015

Nadal Defeats Simon For Ninth Indian Wells QF Berth

Indian Wells, U.S.A.

by ATP Staff
  | 18.03.2015

Three-time Indian Wells champion Rafael Nadal continued his march toward a fourth trophy on Wednesday with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Frenchman Gilles Simon at the BNP Paribas Open.

The World No. 3 served for the match at 5-2 in the second set, but Simon grabbed the break to temporarily extend his time on the court. The Spaniard rebounded on his next service game, closing out the contest in 78 minutes.

Nadal, who has yet to drop as set this year in Indian Wells, extended his FedEx ATP Head2Head record over Simon to 7-1 with the win. Since the beginning of the 2009 season, he has won 37 of his 41 matches against French opposition. He is currently on a 14-match winning streak against players from France.

The 28-year-old has now reached the quarter-final stage or better in nine of his 11 appearances in the desert. He will face Milos Raonic next after the World No. 6 defeated Tommy Robredo 6-3, 6-2 in just over one hour.

In five appearances at the BNP Paribas Open, the Canadian has gone one round further each year since his third-round exit in 2012 (l. to Federer), reaching the fourth round in 2013 (l. to Tsonga) and quarter-finals in 2014 (l. to Dolgopolov). He will hope to continue that pattern to earn a semi-final berth when he faces Nadal.

I agree, it should've been 2 and 2, but strangely, it was a low intensity match considering their past encounters. Gilles has not been the same since he was out with that injury.

Still, Rafa is playing better, incrementally, let's hope it's enough for Raonic who is riding high on confidence.

Rafa can get it done.

He just has to return well and then take over the rallies.

Twenty-three minutes to go. I so hope Rafa is ready.

Wow, Federer slaughtered Berdych! 6-4,6-0. WTH?I didn't watch it because my stupid DVR didn't tape it since IW comes on ESPN on the weekends. I forgot about that. They showed Fed's match on regular ESPN, but Rafa will come on TTW, which I checked and that will record.

So, I'm going to eat a bite and settle in to watch the match. I hope Rafa wins.
