Stan showed up prepared, determined, and focused.

You have to have that and some belief.

Stan was 3-17 against djokovic but that did not matter.
Djokovic was 41-2 for the year and had won 28 matches in a row.

That did not matter to Stan.

He came to win. Credit where credit is due here.

Greatest clay court player in history and still in his prime came to fart around. Rafa did not come to win this.

In fact he was justifying the loss long before it was to happen.

I sure hope Rafa wakes up and gets inspired by Stan's win.

Take back your RG crown Rafa. Stan is nearly 31.

According to the astrologers, all of them Djokovic was not going to win anyway.

Not one astrologer worldwide picked him to win.

Interesting, indeed.

I like to go back and see if anyone got it right.

Many picked Rafa or a surprise winner.

This time they were right.

Don't flame me. It's interesting stuff.

Some of the very big names that do not have RG in their collection:

1. John Newcombe
2. Jimmy Connors
3. Johnny Mac
4. Pete Sampras

If Rafa gets to being Rafa on the red clay next year he will capture RG.

Congrats to Stan Wawrinka and his team and fans and condolences to Novak Djokovic.

Spartan Stan again brought his A+ game when needed most and after losing the first set 4-6, blasted winner after winner and Novak Djokovic off the court in the next 3 sets to take the Roland Garros crown.

Give Wawrinka credit.  He was hitting incredibly well, hard, from a few meters behind the baseline and getting the ball to the Federer baseline.  To me, Stan basically played the Rafa rally game when Rafa was near his best.  But Stan also has the big serve.  He executed better and deservedly won.  I think he has a big chance to win the tournament if he plays like he did against Federer. Roger said he will take a few days off and then go right to work on his grass game, which fits the aggressive style he has been playing anyway.

I guess I called it, but with Stan, one never knows.  But he meant business this tournament, defeating both the #2 and #1 players in the world, again as in the 2014 Australian Open.

Probably Roger knew what could happen better than anyone.  Michael Llodra tweeted earlier: "I asked Roger 'why aren't you at your friend's match?he replied 'I know he'll win,I'm watching FC Basel'
Sure enough, Roger was spotted in the football stadium stands watching the match - both of them. hahaha

Stanimal now has 2 slams in his pocket.  He turned 30 March 28, and has started his 31st year on planet Earth.  Can he add to that?
I don't know about Wimbledon, but he should be one of the favorites in the US Open this year, though it seems that the slower courts suit his power game best.

Finally, compare the stats facing #2 Federer and #1 Djokovic

Respectfully,

he was prepared, focused, and determined.

Pretty much general. Spartan Stan had the Serbian Slayer at a loss of what to do out there.  Nole could only stretch out his arms questioning his box every couple of minutes.

first set W/UEs:

Djokovic: 7/7
Wawrinka: 12/13

1st set Points won :
Djokovic - 35
Wawrinka - 30

So sets 2-4:

W/UE's
Djokovic: 23/34
Wawrinka: 48/32

pts won
Djokovic - 82
Wawrinka - 107

I hate to say it, but I'm glad that Novak lost. He's been talking all year, actually the last three years about winning this title. I can understand how he feels, but some things you should leave unsaid. It was almost as if he was willing himself to win and playing mind games at the same time.

I don't like Stan either though, he's too full of himself. The final was hard to watch. Throughout I couldn't pick between the two. I guess Stan was the lesser of two evils, but I'd just as soon not see either one of them on finals day.

Rafa's best bet to get back into the swing of things:

1. start working harder on fitness now and not later

2. get back on clay ASAP after Wimbledon. that means more match play and practice on clay before heading on to the north American hard court circuit.

he has no chance to get back into the game if does not do this.

gaining a few points at Wimbledon and at the u.s. open is completely meaningless if he cant improve his fitness and his game.

I don't see what purpose trying to make the WTF in London serves. only thing it will do is expose him to injury.

if you cant win because you dont have sufficient fitness and game then getting to London is meaningless. if you dont bring enough fitness, game, and intensity, and focus then it will start to get a lot harder.

window is closing rapidly now. he has to decide how bad he wants this.

as for time off from the sport, well he has nothing but time off with all those long setbacks. there has been plenty of time for poker, golf, fishing, and now the tennis academy.

no top player has ever been consumed with all these other outside activities. they all wait until they retire to start tennis academies.

lendl and others took of golf and other outside activities after they retired.

if you are still in the sport and competing and battling on the front lines, it serves absolutely zero purpose to keep getting your head bashed in by the players that you owned for nearly a decade.

wake up rafa. compete and fight to win. bring your game, fitness, intensity, and focus to the sport and show them who you are.

You have that right general.  With all his injuries, Haas is still competing.  It is amazing. I wouldn't be surprised if he can take a title somewhere if he can stay healthy for a few months. It certainly gives hope to other injured players that they can come back, like Del Potro who is much younger.

And people say that Federer will be done at 35.  Sure, I suppose if he wants to stop he can stop anytime.

But if he wants to play to 40 or longer, I think he would still be competitive. I think I predicted he could still be within the top 10 or 20 at age 40.

And that's just singles.

Federer has an easy, free flowing style of play. he can easily play until he is about 43.

I believe he will. he loves to compete and he is a complete professional. he can block out the outside world and just work on his game and his fitness.

I think he is going to be a factor at Wimbledon this year.

I love Tommy Haas. What a resilient athlete. It's sad how so many people can have supreme talent and be afflicted by injury proneness. It seems so unfair. Such a bad roll of the dice.

Rafa could lose today. why the hell would you fart around with doubles with your friend lopez when it is so damn clear that your singles games is not even good enough to beat the lowest ranked players anymore.

his focus is completely lost. I don't think he wants to win.

not only does he not want to win, he has completely given up trying to beat top players.

I just don't get this. why the hell does he want to lose. why not work 6-7 hours a day on your singles game and get out this funk for good.

if baggy holds serve twice he bags the first set.
