I used to have this great article that explained Nadal's congenital foot problem. It seems that he was born with it and it's something that should have been corrected in childhood. But, what parent checks every bone in their child's body looking for defects? It was either soon before, or after he joined the tour, that the defect was made known to his parents and he was advised that he would never be able to play full time on the tour.

His parents searched globally for someone to help him with his condition. They got advice from the best in the world and some help from Nike who makes him special shoes (not the erroneously reported, he had to wear his shoes two sizes too small concocted by the commentators). Because of the location of the bone it wasn't possible for him to have the bone re-broken, instead they had to make adjustments around the bone.

The problem is that because of the position of the bone it puts unnecessary pressure on the knees which causes both pressure and pain.

At this point, the Nadals are faced with a difficult dilemma; does he abandon a promising tennis career, or play as long as he can? They let Rafa decide and he chose to see how  far he could go. I think he made the right decision, but he has to do it his way.

All of the talk about playing style is, in my opinion, unfounded, much like the "two sizes too small" story which was fictictious.

So, what are the alternatives? To play less and find yourself always playing catch up? Coming back with harder draws and opponents who could further delay your progress?

Sometimes you have a condition that can't be helped and you have to work with it, rather than against it.

Not only that, but you have to take the player's personality into account as well. Rafa is said to be pretty hyper, always in motion, so I don't think that resting will work to his benefit, because it's against his nature. He has to do what works for him whether the fans understand it or not. I think it's a case of mind over matter.

I say that because I have a friend who is disabled. To see her, you would think that there's nothing wrong with her, and when she catches the bus and asks the bus driver to lower the steps, the bus driver and the passengers give her dirty looks. But the truth is, she has fibromyalgia, a thyroid problem, and nerve damage, amongst other things. She never has a day without pain, but she refuses to give in to her physical limitations. That's due to her mindset. I couldn't understand it at first, but now I see what she is talking about. You can allow a condition to overtake your life, or you can take over the condition. There are psychological ramifications to giving in to a condition.

This is just my opinion, but I can't see Rafa being overly careful and imposing those limitations on his own mind. He wouldn't be the competitor that he is if he didn't have his mindset.

The Nadal family was already wealthy, so money couldn't have been the issue. It can't be for the glory, because it's obvious that he doesn't feel that way. It's of no benefit to Toni, because Rafa doesn't even pay Toni for his services, so the only thing left is Rafa and his desire to compete.

And me, I'm glad he chose to play.

Great your article TT... you simply have the art of writing.

Rafa is really an example of overcoming... Its strength, struggle, positivity, willingness to try, to believe and make it happen... At all times, in the most difficult situations, since the beginning of his amazing career in tennis is something truly sublime.

Beyond obsession. It is  wearisome. Any thread  about anything else disappears quickly. They won't let it go.

one thing is certain sports fans.

very large forums that are run by companies just don't matter anymore.

who really gives a damn about 30,000 rats at these large forums when you can have a few cool, kind, normal, reasonable, and thoughtful people to interact with like we do here at Camelot.

we have just a few folks here and they are all special. all normal and kind folks with normal jobs, normal families, and normal lives.

Camelot rolls that way.

I agree with your assessment. Rafa defines competition, and in sport that's what I'm most interested in. All of the top 100 have comparable skills, but it's taking those skills to the max that always gets my attention.

Yes my dear TT, Rafa is getting better, even with all the problems. He is seeking to improve technically, grow your game, get stronger mentally and physically. He can do this. He is persistent. He never gives up!

What a day I had. Is anyone as afraid of the police as I am? Seriously, a police car behind me is enough to put me straight into cardiac arrest.

So today, for once I was very productive. Got a lot of things done and was pretty pleased with myself. I worked all day and then it was time to pick up my son for school. I rushed out the door and was driving down the street when I started to doubt if I had turned off my chili. I continue so I made a U-turn and went back home to check. There was no one around so I didn't think anything about it.

I got home, checked, and everything was fine, but now I was running late. I started out again and a block away from the expressway, a police came through the light, made a U-turn and got behind me. No worries, I was getting on the highway and he'd probably turn off. It didn't happen. He got on the expressway behind me. I made sure to drive the speed limit. At every exit I kept waiting for him to get off, but he never did.

Now my head is starting to spin. Had I done something that I wasn't aware of? I knew my tags and lights were fine, but he would stop stalking me. Finally, I get off the expressway, but the nightmare isn't over. He follows me all the way to the school. I'm getting nervous because now I'm running a few minutes late and I know my son is going to call me. I don't dare answer the phone and I know my son is standing outside in the cold.

Finally, I'm saved by a red light. The phone rings. It's him. I try to push it on the seat beside me. I accidentally hang up. He calls back. This time I answer, but I'm afraid to lift the phone. I try to hit the speaker, but since I don't use it often I can't find.

Thankfully, he's outside so he's speaking loud. I'm talking, watching the police to make sure he doesn't know what I'm doing. Then, my son starts walking towards me, but there's no place to park and I don't know what to do. I don't want to drive past him, but I still can't shake this policeman. Finally, the cruiser passes me and my son gets in the car.

Talk about a sigh of relief. My son was like, "what's wrong?" He could tell I was visibly upset. I told him and we laughed all the way home.

You are so positive. I see good things for Rafa too. There's always speed bumps in the road.

348 followers so far. maybe I can hit 500 in the next 20-30 days.

getting sleepy now. I will see you all tomorrow.

new folks arriving every day now. just 7 more to go and we have our major milestone of 100.

it will get easier after a few months. we will start to become  better known around the web.

we are trying new experiments to streamline a little bit. the place has way too many boards. some sort of restructuring needs to be looked at.

general masterclass is looking at ways to make this board look lean and mean and easier and faster to navigate.

so all these are just experiments. nothing is permanent. we will keep trying to come up with the best possible look.

I have been having problems with Twitter. It seems the other day someone got hacked and spread a virus. Did you hear about that? I haven't been back there ever since.

This computer of mine is just garbage. I'm going to have to replace it.
