that is exactly my worry. you hit the nail on the head. he can beat 99% of the tour playing from his forehand corner and giving up most of the court but it does mean 2 things:

1. it makes it harder for him. why work so hard when you don't have to. work hard in practice instead.

2. a guy like nole can take advantage since he does not give up any court at all. rafa has lost his last 3-4 matches to nole.


nadal has to let his backhand work for him and the way to do that is not run around it day and night. I bet he even runs around his backhand even in his dreams when sleeping.

his backhand is one of the best in the game but it can also let him down when he does not give it a chance to get into rhythm.

It's amazing how beloved Rafa is, and not because of any hype. He's loved because so many people can relate to him. God bless Sebastian and Ana Maria, LOL.

OK, I think I understand. Are you saying that although his backhand is good, if it isn't on he might not be that comfortable using it, and instead he runs around it to hit a forehand?

If that's the case then he does need to practice and groove that background until it becomes a bigger weapon. Too much reliance on the forehand only is like leaving one of your best tools in the shed.
