Guys, I don't mean to give you bad news but I heard Rafa might be pulling out of Toronto and Cincy Masters due to injury happened yesterday during practice.

I just got home and opened Yahoo and it was the first thing I saw. Talk about bad timing. Thanks for telling us. I've been working on organizing my articles for the Everything Rafa site lately and have been too busy to post much. Plus, I've been a bit under the weather. That was so sweet of you. I hope CD doesn't have a conniption.

Nadal out of 2 tournaments because of right wrist

By HOWARD FENDRICH (AP Tennis Writer) 9 minutes ago AP - Sports

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nadal-2-tournaments-because-wrist-164156122--ten.html

Rafael Nadal withdrew Wednesday from U.S. Open tuneups in Toronto and Cincinnati because of a right wrist injury, putting in doubt his status for a title defense at the year's last Grand Slam tournament.
The second-ranked Nadal plays left-handed, but he uses a two-handed backhand.

Nadal's manager, Benito Perez-Barbadillo, wrote in an emailed release that the Spaniard was hurt in practice on his home island of Mallorca while getting ready for the North American hard-court circuit. Perez-Barbadillo said that doctors determined Wednesday that Nadal will need to wear a cast on his wrist for two to three weeks and the initial prognosis is for him to be able to return to action at the U.S. Open, which begins Aug. 25. But doctors will keep tabs on the injury, including with MRI exams, and then decide when Nadal can play again.

The Toronto tournament begins Monday, and the Cincinnati tournament starts Aug. 11. Nadal won both of those events last year (when the Canadian tournament was held in Montreal). They would have represented his hard-court preparation for this year's U.S. Open.

Nadal won his second championship at Flushing Meadows in 2013. That is part of his collection of 14 Grand Slam titles, tied with Pete Sampras for second in the history of men's tennis, trailing only Roger Federer's record of 17.

Nadal is 44-8 with four titles in 2014, including his record ninth French Open trophy.
He hasn't competed since losing in the fourth round of Wimbledon to 19-year-old Nick Kyrgios in four sets on July 1.
Nadal has reached the final in his last three appearances at the U.S. Open, beating Novak Djokovic to win the titles in 2010 and last year, and losing to Djokovic in 2011. Nadal missed the tournament in 2012, part of an extended absence because of a knee injury.

timing is just horrible for this tragedy.

I thought of you guys first when I heard the news. I know how it feels. It's so good to see the players we really like in action, isn't it.

And it's a loss for the tournament as well because Rafa is a very big draw. On top of that, I was really looking forward to see all the top guys. Oh well.

Anyway, I still have Andy, Nole, Federer and Nishkori, Dimitrov, Raonic, Cilic, Berdy and lots of others to watch.

herc, USO is still 3 weeks away and Rafa might just recover in time. What do you think?

It's OK. It's just a way of showing us that life has ups and downs. It will also help Nadal with his perseverance. This setback is only a test. We as fan cannot take our eyes off the prize.

All of Rafa's lows have been followed by incredible highs. It will continue to be that way, because he is the poster boy for navigating this thing called life. Remember, he wasn't supposed to be able to play professional tennis at all. He was only supposed to be a clay courter. He was supposed to never win off clay. He was supposed to never reach double digits. The list goes on and on.

Sometimes people are put out there for an example for others. Rafa is a living example of that.

He will brush this off and continue to shine.

If he doesn't play the USO, he will win the AO and complete the double career slam. Then this little blip will make sense in retrospect.

Mind you, if he does not play the USO, he will be well rested and ready to make an assault on 2015, which could see him making up for lost time.

Be of good cheer; our guy is phenomenal.

Thanks for you kind words, Emma. I was a bit taken aback initially, but like Rafa, I am used to navigating unforeseen circumstances. Things have to happen a certain way in order to get the real prize. I remain nonplussed, no matter what comes my way. I think Rafa is the same way.

There will still be good tennis in NY and I plan to enjoy. This may be the breakthrough tournament for my boy, Berdych. I know you're not a fan of his, but I feel he is worthy of a major; for all of his years being behind the Big 4, with an awesome attitude to keep improving. I respect that immensely.

Great news Rafa back on practice court

Nadal, the defending champion at the United States Open, announced that his wrist needed to be immobilized in a cast for at least two to three weeks, which will force him to miss the warm-up Masters events in Toronto and Cincinnati.

Nadal flew to Barcelona from his training base in Manacor, in Majorca, for tests of his wrist, which revealed “a small disinsertion of the posterior ulnar pod of his right wrist.” Nadal’s camp offered a prognosis, saying in a statement: “Depending on the evolution of the injury that will be carefully followed by the doctors, including M.R.I. tests, it will be decided then the return to competition, initially scheduled for the U.S. Open.”

Wow, here's another one. This is a big blow to the WTA.

Li Na Withdraws From Summer Events Including US Open Due To Knee
by Tom Gainey | July 31st, 2014, 9:05 am

http://www.tennis-x.com/xblog/2014-07-31/16512.php

Li Na announced today that her ailing right knee is not fit enough for the hardcourts this summer, so the Australian Open champion has withdrawn from Montreal, Cincinnati and the US Open.

On Facebook, she posted, “I wanted to let all of my great fans know that unfortunately I am going to have to withdraw from the upcoming WTA events in Montreal and Cincinnati, as well as the US Open. Since March, I have been struggling with my knee and it is just not where I need it to be in order to play at the highest level. My medical team has advised me that I need to take some time off to rest my knee so it heels. I look forward to getting back on the court this fall in Wuhan and Beijing.

I know. I saw that. They never did say what happened. Did he fall? Hit himself with the racket? Anyway, it's good to know that he's still keeping himself in shape and practicing.

It's a bummer because I was looking forward to seeing him in Cincy. But, it's not too late. Depending on the severity of the wrist, with the best doctors available...OK sorry, being selfish. Better just wish him good health and move on.

The Impact of Rafael Nadal's Absence on US Hard Courts
By Joanie Agler Jul 31st 2014

http://www.tennisviewmag.com/tennis-view-magazine/article/impact-rafael-nadals-absence-us-hard-courts

Not again.  Those are two words that are probably going through the minds of Rafael Nadal, his camp, and his fans throughout the world.  The situation may not be as dire as what he faced in 2 012, but a right wrist injury sustained this past Tuesday once more finds the Spaniard having to sit out the Masters events in Canada and Cincinnati.  It is also an injury that changes the entire outlook for the upcoming weeks of the summer hard-court season.

There is no getting around that Nadal’s absence in the coming weeks will be deeply felt, and he will be missed for a number of reasons.  But the good news is that, at least for the time being, the wrist injury does not sound too serious.  He seems relatively confident of being in New York, and even if not at his best, the sport will be better for it if he is.  That said, should the injury prevent him from playing at the US Open, he should still be ready to go for the fall to help make for an exciting finish to 2014.

Pretty long article

How Rafael Nadal's Injuries May Cause a Late-Career Scheduling Shift
By Jeremy Eckstein , Featured Columnist Aug 1, 2014

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2148642-how-rafael-nadals-injuries-may-cause-a-late-career-scheduling-shift
Rafael Nadal has a wrist injury that could very well derail his chances at winning the 2014 U.S. Open. This is hardly surprising, considering that injuries have been Nadal’s traveling companion through his decade of spectacular tennis.

Almost no part of his body has not been assaulted: right elbow, left-ankle stress fracture, tarsal scaphoid bone in left foot, requiring constant shoe adjustments and training precautions, shoulder, tendonitis in both knees, perpetually, back pains and right wrist.

Rafa’s song rises to #2! It is pretty catchy!

Beatenberg Releases Tennis Anthem ‘Rafael’…By Nikki August 1, 2014

http://1musicnetworks.tv/beatenberg-releases-tennis-anthem-rafael/

Beatenberg Music  Videonew  video Rapheal slider

After “Pluto (Remember You)”, their indie-house collaboration with DJ Clock, Beatenberg is back with a new single off their new album The Hanging Gardens of Beatenberg. After making its radio debut earlier this month, ‘Rapheal’ quickly shot up to the #2 spot (and climbing) on South Africa’s National Airplay Chart.

“It was a bit of a toss-up between spelling the title with a ‘ph’ for Raphael the renaissance artist or an ‘f’ for Rafael Nadal the tennis player because both are invoked equally in the pun on ‘stroke of genius’. Although we finally decided on Rafael, who seemed to be the more central character to the song, it’s cool to see that fans are spelling the title as both Rafael and Raphael on Twitter – an elegant outsourced solution to the name dilemma! Look out for the official video coming very soon. And no, I’m sorry, Rafa himself is not in it, but you can see the band try their hand (feet) at some mad dance moves.

We hope that very soon people will be tweeting about The Hanging Gardens of Babylon as well as the correct name of our upcoming album The Hanging Gardens of Beatenberg too!”

While we wait for an official video, Beatenberg has shared a lyric video for the song featuring lead singer Matthew Field hitting the tennis court in Cape Town. The Hanging Gardens of Beatenberg is due out later this year.
Enjoy!
