Oh well, Andy lost. But I am not disappointed because he showed what he's made of. Last night his touch shots weren't working that well so he had to go on an all out assault, which I do think wore him out physically. Had he been able to mix up the two styles he could have had a better shot, but it wasn't meant to be.

I guess in the end it makes sense. He's not at his former Big 4 level with the injury and all, but he showed us why he is a perennial member of the Big Four. That was some scintillating tennis. And when you consider that he is slowly but surely getting back to his level and getting his fitness back it just let's us know that he'll be ready in Oz. Oz is going to be a cracker in 2015. Plus, it wouldn't make sense for him to just getting back to his level and beating the #1 player in the world.

Andy's time will come, and I don't know which one, but he will definitely win a major next year.

It was a great match overall and Andy is on his way back.

i watched the andy murray vs nole battle last night.

tough loss for andy. he and rafa are in the same boat in a way: they both are not working hard enough on their fitness.

rafa has no business lining up exos on hard courts. he should get his ass on the red clay and work on his ground game which is a mere shell of what it used to be.

i am worried about them both.

nole and roger keep taking their fitness higher and higher.

Berdych is stinking up the courts. Really bad. Nothing is working for him. His serve is off. His forehand is off. His groundstrokes are off, and his errors are through the roof. I am just not understanding. With a chance to get to the semifinals of the USO? Good grief! This is so disappointing. I don't even know why I'm still watching this.

He's playing so bad he's bringing Cilic down.

Times like these make me wonder how much organized crime really is into sports. I'm going to research that, because I see this happen way too much.

Oh, I forgot that I was glad Stan lost. He gets on my nerves for several reasons.

1. He acts like he's entitled to a fan base because of his friendship with Federer.
2. He has changed his entire persona since he won that first major.
3. He seems to have forgotten that he was a choker, (the jury is still out on that).
4. I hate when people change based on circumstance. It's like Kipling a true champion faces both victory and adversity the same way.

Roger and Novak haven't been off the tour for extended periods of time. It's easy to keep your level up when you're constantly working on it on a daily basis. But Andy had to get re-acclimated to the rigors of the tour. Coming back at a lower seeding means Andy had to get used to the lower tour level players first and build on that, but Roger and Novak are legions above those levels, so it's hardly feasible that Andy can jump up his fitness, focus, and decision making on the spur of the moment.

He tried and he also showed that the fire was still in his belly, but practice is different than playing in a high stakes tournament like that.

Rafa? I don't know about his fitness levels, he had a freak injury in Oz, which had to cause him some consternation and doubt, got bounced out of Wimbledon, and suffered another freak injury at the start of the hard court season. However, if he isn't working on his fitness, he should because he was still able to prevail at RG.

Speaking of Rafa there is some new news today.

Rafael Nadal's interview to IB3

Rafa won't force his come back on court and acknowledges that recovery's going slower than expected.
He's no longer using the splint but hitting the BH at 100% is a different matter. The idea is to come back in Beijing in the 1st week of Oct.

Rafa says the process is a bit slow 'cause the wrist is a frail/sensitive part of the body & they need to be cautious not to have a relapse, which could make things worse & that's why they're trying to be calm & follow the right steps to avoid that to happen.

Toni says the injury isn't serious, but they have to be cautious not to start playing w/it not being healed, as it could then become serious

After having to miss the USO, Rafa's taken things easy. 3 days ago he started to hit 2HBH a few min per day, though for now he still feels pain

Day by day Rafa's adding more minutes & says that he's feeling better than 2 weeks ago when he tested the wrist for the USO.

He's hitting some BH w/topspin, though not yet at 100% from the baseline, but little by little he's doing things he couldn't a few days ago. He hopes to get ready for Beijing but after missing CAN/Cincy/USO/DC he won't force & will only go if he can hit BH w/o or w/controlled pain .

All depends on how things evolve in the next two weeks. Toni thinks these two weeks could be key for the recovery.
From Beijing onwards Rafa's calendar remains as scheduled. That is: Shanghai, Basel, Paris & London.
About the DC, Rafa says losing the play-off would be unpleasant, but trusts the chosen players will try their best to keep Spain in the WG.

This is too funny when you put all of these articles together. Not making any judgments, but it's just funny all of these food related articles.

Bad Sushi: Victoria Azarenka Was Suffering From Food Poisoning Today
by Tom Gainey | September 3rd, 2014, 4:24 pm

http://www.tennis-x.com/xblog/2014-09-03/16931.php

Former World No. 1 Victoria Azarenka was suffering from food poisoning during her loss today to Ekatarina Makarova, her publicist curiously confirmed after the match.

Azarenka then spoke about after in the press.

“I don’t really want to talk about it,” said Azarenka who’s had a history of illnesses and injuries. “I just, you know, want to give credit to my opponent. She played really well today. Am I disappointed? Yes, I’m disappointed. But I feel like I tried my best with whatever I had. But, you know, I just want to wish her good luck. That’s it. I’m out of the tournament.”

According to ESPN, Azarenka ate some bad sushi on Monday and was unable to practice on Tuesday.
The 25-year-old Azarenka had been to the finals at the US Open the last two years losing to Serena Williams.

“Very disappointing,” she said of the setback. “It’s not about that you have been two times in the final before that’s going to make it better. It just is what it is today. It’s not the end of the world. It’s something I can take positive from this tournament.

“Two months ago I didn’t even think that I was going to be able to play today. But, you know, trying to ask and put some kind of pressure like that with those questions I think is no point.”

Andy Murray: 'Exceptional' year for Briton, says Richard Krajicek

US Open: Andy Murray says Novak Djokovic match demanding

By Piers Newbery BBC Sport at Flushing Meadows

Britain's Andy Murray said he was disappointed that Novak Djokovic proved physically stronger in their US Open quarter-final.
"I was a little bit disappointed, to be honest, because I did train very hard."

Murray carried out a training block with his support team in Florida after a disappointing quarter-final defeat at Wimbledon in July.
"You do the work for these matches, so I would have liked to have felt a little bit better towards the end," said the Scot.
"Maybe I haven't played enough matches at that level this year," he said.

"It's obviously different playing at that level, playing against the number one in the world. And the way that we play against each other, it's just an extremely physical match.

Murray said that in games against other players, for example Roger Federer, the points come quicker and it is not as demanding.
He added: "When me and Novak play against each other, you obviously see very tight, long rallies. Both of us do a lot of running.
"Maybe I'll gain a lot from playing a match like today, because it doesn't matter how much training you do, when you get on the match court it's different.

"I can't practice with the best player in the world, so it's tough to practice at that intensity."

i saw something on twitter somebody was saying that he is to play an exo with tsonga on the hard courts somewhere.

not sure if it is accurate. lets hope not. he nees to keep an eye on that wrist.

wrist injuries can last forever if not properly taken care of.

he also needs to get off those damn hard courts. one of these days it will be too late.

one can pretty much practice year around on clay and keep their ground game sharp. clay is also easier on the body and the joints.

order of play for saturday:

I thought Novak and Kei would play last. That seems like more of a blockbuster match.

both are day matches.

i think there is a greater chance of an upset---if there is going to be one---with the cilic vs federer match.

not sure how that one is going to play out.

federer played a 5 setter late at night. body does not recover as fast as when you are in your 20's.

cilic basically has to play a match of his life to win. if he is up to the task then he just might find himself in the final.

Wow, you called it down to the letter. I wasn't expecting Cilic to win, but it's good to see two hard workers finally get a break.
