This really kills me, especially when people talk about Serena's "outbursts." It's funny how they never recall the constant, disparaging remarks made against them, all based on cultural traits. They have endured so many racial epithets it's not even funny, and the moment they lose their cool, all of a sudden they're the bad guys. What's even sadder is that these insults usually come from those in "authority."

 During the lead-up to this week’s Kremlin Cup in Moscow, Russian Tennis Federation President Shamil Tarpischev engaged in a regrettable dialog with a Russian television host. During the taping of a popular Russian late-night TV show called Evening Urgant, Tarpischev, who was a guest alongside of former WTA star Elena Dementieva, called Venus and Serena Williams "brothers“ much to the delight of the show’s host, Ivan Urgant.
Thanks to the tennisinfoblog.com, there is a tidy translation of the transcript (we’ve quoted their handiwork below):
    During the interview, the host asked, “How it feels to play against one of the…hmmm…? “Williams brothers,” helped Tarpischev. Urgant continued: “Look at our athletes–elegant and beautiful. I have tremendous respect for them [Williams sisters], but once one of the sisters passed next to me, and I found myself in her shadow for about forty seconds. They are so physically powerful. Weren’t you afraid to play against them?” Dementieva didn’t seem particularly amused by the conversation.
You can watch the video above and, even if you don’t understand Russian, you can get a feel for how Tarpischev insults the Williams sisters with his ignorant, demeaning remarks and seems to be getting a good laugh out of it. This is the President of the Russian Tennis Federation on national TV. Not good at all.

“As the President of the USTA and a member of the Board of Directors of the International Tennis Federation, I call on Shamil Tarpischev to issue a formal apology to Venus and Serena Williams. As the President of the Russian Tennis Federation and a member of the International Olympic Committee, Mr. Tarpischev is expected to conduct himself with the highest degree of integrity and sportsmanship. Unfortunately, his comments do not embody either of these traits and in fact were reprehensible.”

That is just horrible. What the hell are these people thinking when they make remarks like that?

When will they ever learn that we are all god's children?

I don't think they ever will. The name of the game is superiority. Everyone wants to be bigger, better, and more important than their fellow man. Pretty sad, instead of accepting and viewing each other as unique.

He was lightning fast and those shots were ridiculous. Now, looking at it you can see that he's not as fast as he used to be, but it's hard to have a point of reference since he's injured every off year. He reminds me of me. It seems I can do nothing without my body reacting to it.

I mean, I'm at a healthy weight but according to the doctors my body produces a lot of cholesterol. How weird is that? I don't consume a lot, but I get the effects of it anyway. I took an Advil recently and it tore my kidney up. Good thing I was already at the doctor's office because they were able to put me in the hospital right away.

That's why I get mad when people think what's going on with Rafa has to do with his "physical" style. The entire game is physical now, so that to me, is a worthless speculation.

All you have to do is get sick one good time and your body can totally fall apart. Before all of this stuff happened I rarely even took an aspirin and was constantly throwing away medicine because it would expire. Now, every time I turn around something's wrong with me.

The doctors can't explain it, they say it shouldn't have happened, but a UTI was treated with twenty different antibiotics and no one checked to see that my body was resistant to them. From that medical mistake flowed all of my other health problem. Sometimes it's just the luck of the draw.

Look at this. The good old days. What matches and points these two guys pulled off. I didn't see one for Federer. I'm curious what that would look like against Rafa. I also miss the piratas, but you can't go back. I wish he would've kept that.
