those were the days lady TT.

rafa used to pull off absolutely impossible shots on the dead run and from 20 miles behind the baseline.

He was lightning fast and those shots were ridiculous. Now, looking at it you can see that he's not as fast as he used to be, but it's hard to have a point of reference since he's injured every off year. He reminds me of me. It seems I can do nothing without my body reacting to it.

I mean, I'm at a healthy weight but according to the doctors my body produces a lot of cholesterol. How weird is that? I don't consume a lot, but I get the effects of it anyway. I took an Advil recently and it tore my kidney up. Good thing I was already at the doctor's office because they were able to put me in the hospital right away.

That's why I get mad when people think what's going on with Rafa has to do with his "physical" style. The entire game is physical now, so that to me, is a worthless speculation.

All you have to do is get sick one good time and your body can totally fall apart. Before all of this stuff happened I rarely even took an aspirin and was constantly throwing away medicine because it would expire. Now, every time I turn around something's wrong with me.

The doctors can't explain it, they say it shouldn't have happened, but a UTI was treated with twenty different antibiotics and no one checked to see that my body was resistant to them. From that medical mistake flowed all of my other health problem. Sometimes it's just the luck of the draw.

you know Rafa's most favorite movie is "Gladiator".

and I am thinking about that amazing line from that movie: "I will show them something they have never seen before".

well Rafa gave the world something they had never seen before either. his absolutely impossible shots on the dead run off both wings.

I was away all day yesterday. I got back really late from baton rouge.

I had gone to hang out with mom and dad.

And he will. All that's going on is just a smokescreen. It has nothing to do with Rafa's destiny. In hindsight, I guess he played Basel because he was contractually obligated and didn't show up last year. Now, he has that monkey off his back and can concentrate on getting healthy.

The procedure is scheduled for November 3rd, so that appears to be pretty good timing. I'm looking forward to a great 2015.

Lady TT, that's November for the surgery, correct?

It's about time. I guess they need everything he was taking for his appendicitis to clear his system before the surgery.

But he knew he was going to lose?

I don't know, but it seems as if he must have had a lot of pressure on him to force him to play with appendicitis.

It's all been very strange to me. But then we don't know everything that's going on, either.

Respectfully,

Yes, the surgery is scheduled for November 3rd. I guess he played because he was supposed to play last year and pulled out. He may have felt pressure to pull out at the last minute again. Who knows how another pullout would have affected his business interests? I can imagine he would've gotten a lot of negative press, so he opted to play, but not at full strength.

I think he played to fulfill his commitment.

I am glad he will get this out of the way.

He has been struck down with one thing after another.

The bloody injuries and ailments have been endless.

General, I recently saw an interview of Nadal somewhere, where he said that beside the appendicitis that his back was still hurting him.  Appendicitis, back problems, and yet he was still playing.  And Roger came out and said that he didn't understand some of Rafa's recent decisions and that Rafa looked very weak at Basel.  Neither do I.  It can't be about money. He's got gobs of it, unless he has been gambling it away playing poker.  You've followed Rafa about as much as anyone, what's up with him?

I got this from TTW. They have an extensive Nadal thread over there and keep tabs on his every move. The information is in date order.

Rafa would have had the surgery straight after Shanghai, but his doctors said that he cannot have the surgery before the antibiotics have gone totally out of his system. So that's why the delay, and that's why playing in Basel. That explains it all.

It was not that he was after money. The antibiotics made it impossible to go to the surgery.

¤¤ Rafa was very lucky not to have to undergo surgery in China. He has been told by doctors that very few times a case like his is stopped with antibiotic. It's 100% certain he has to undergo surgery. The time for it depends on the recovery time needed. For him the highest priority is not to interfere with the next season, thus surgery date will be chosen with this in mind as priority and then, if possible, to miss as less as possible in this season; but he has stressed what his priority is: starting 2015 fit and ready. ¤¤

Rafa went to the doctor(s) in Barcelona before he went home to Mallorca. They confirmed the diagnosis from Shanghai and that the inflammation has been controlled by the treatment he received there.

They said he's progressing satisfactorily and is currently showing no symptoms so they'll continue the treatment for 4-5 days and depending on his progress will make therapeutic decisions then.

So...sounds like no word on surgery for a few days yet.

Rafa health update
Dr.Cotorro said on October 9, 2014 [Translated by Genny SS]:
Quote:
"Rafa's suffered a case of appendicitis that has stopped thanks to the antibiotic treatment"
"It's true that this [process] will end up in surgery, as we've been able to confirm today"
"Rafa feels good and I think each day he's going to feel better"
"Right now we're interested in having this under control. Main thing isn't playing, but seeing how Rafa evolves"
"In this kind of cases, proper thing to do is to wait till process stabilizes. Then, when possible, a programmed surgery"
"Rafa's appendicular process hasn't had the typical medical picture [symptoms] of appendicitis"
"From now on we'll be following his evolution. Let's see how he is after 4-5 days with antibiotics, then we'll decide"
Alternatives to emergency surgery

In some cases, appendicitis can lead to the development of a lump on the appendix called an 'appendix mass'. This lump, consisting of appendix and fatty tissue, is an attempt by the body to deal with the problem and heal itself.

If an appendix mass is found during an examination, your doctors may decide it is not necessary to operate immediately. Instead, you will be given a course of antibiotics and an appointment will be made for an appendectomy a few weeks later, when the mass has settled.

Another possible alternative to immediate surgery is the use of antibiotics to treat appendicitis. However, studies have looked into whether antibiotics could be an alternative to surgery and as yet there is not enough clear evidence to suggest this is the case.

http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Appendi...Treatment.aspx
This is in line with what Dr Cottoro said:

Then I really hope that you are not a practicing medic. Recent research shows that appendicitis can be treated with antibiotics.

It is always better to have planned surgery rather than emergency surgery, which I believe is what Rafa's doctors have said.

No, appendicitis is not a severe inflammation, it is simply inflammation. And he didn't play with an inflamed appendix. The IV antibiotic treatment got rid of the inflammation. He probably shouldn't have played because his body had been severely weakened by the infection, the aggressive medications, and the bed rest and lack of food for three days but everyone should really douse the hair on fire flames. He wasn't near death.

its horrible decision making general.

he wastes away endless time with other activities and then tries to make up for that with some match play.

not only is the back not 100%, the damn wrist is also not 100%. there is a huge drop in fitness. he has lost significant muscle mass and you can also just see the drop in endurance.

he had no business being in Basel. he should have been taking care of the surgery.

he actually had no business playing Felli in Shanghai. he should have left for Mallorca.

he opens himself to too much risk trying to compete in this depleted state. he could have made his back worse and re-injured his wrist in Basel.

all I can say is this: it is going to be very tough for him to compete effectively in Melbourne. he wont have enough time to get fit, let alone sufficient practice and match play.

of course he knew that and he still stayed in Shanghai and then went to Basel. he is actually way the hell behind the curve now general masterclass.

this type of decisions can end his career. he is just own man and does things his way.

he has got to get this stuff together. there are players out there that are 10 years older then him that are doing great in the sport and racking up titles.

I am not sure if it truly does. It makes sense that the antibiotics needed to be gone totally in order to have the surgery, but it still doesn't make sense why he'd play Basel. It's not like he was going to play a set of poker game or chess for that matter. He chose to play a tennis tournament that required complete and utter physical involvement and that will never make sense - no matter how we slice it or dice it.

que pasa princess emma, general masterclass, lady TT and the others.

I am under the same impression folks: there was no need to take such immense risk in that depleted state.

I mean what was the purpose of being abused by a 17 year old in straights. what the hell did that accomplish.

he himself said that his back is not 100%. he also said his wrist is not 100%.

I am his greatest fan on the planet but I have call it like I see it.

he has been making terrible decisions since the u.s. open in 2013. and you can see the result of that.

the result is a dramatic increase of injuries and ailments. and of course a significant drop in rankings and his status as a top player.

he lost to Felli in straights. he lost to Klizan. he got run over by a 17 year old in straights in basel.

you all saw what happened at Wimbledon. he lost because he was whipped from the French open campaigns but he lost early in all the other clay events in 2013. so he should not have been so worn out but he was.

right now Rafa cant beat anybody. he has to fix his health and his fitness.

I am worried to death about him. he has lost some of his drive and hunger precisely at the time when he was in a position to stare down history.

he is simply too wealthy and those endorsements will just keep coming. his 9 RG crowns will net him over $1 billion dollars in the next 20 years. that is how much they are worth.

his position in history is secure also.

now he needs to come with the final push.
