another good movie that had a sad ending was "million dollar baby".

Gut wrenching. I don't think I could watch it again, but everyone does an amazing job.

agreed. and there is no competing with Robert Redford anyway. he was perfect for the role in that original movie.

I just vaguely remembered that I had seen this version with RR. Golly! Leonardo does have the charm but as I've mentioned before, he has problems getting out of his own character first let alone be someone else. Robert Redford has one too many good movies under his belt. I really think The Way We Were was one of his best.

For some reason this reminded me of Cary Grant and perhaps because of his somewhat similar movie, An Affair to Remember. I also really liked Carry Grant in North by Northwest. One of Hitchcock's best. We can list of the characters we liked in movies. I have tons.

"the way we were" was a superb movie.

redford is in a class his own. he worked with paul newman in "butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid". that is also one of his better known movie.

I never saw "north by northwest" but I do know that cary grant was an immense talent.

was it cary grant who worked with princess grace of Monaco in that old movie that was shot in paris?

was it called "it takes a thief" or something? I do recall seeing that one a few years ago.

North by Northwest is your classic action comedy. Hitchcock at this best needless to say. He had talent at every genre of film he'd ever made.

Grace, The Princess of Monaco was actually Grace Kelly the actress originally. She married into that royal crap when she was seeing a lot of success. She retired from acting after marriage and saw a tragic death at age 53. She was famous for Rear Window, Dial M etc. And it's not called "it takes a their" lol.  but it's called To Catch a Thief. lol

Anyway, very beautiful person inside out.

You two have great taste in movies!  :)

To Catch a Thief
North by Northwest
Some Like It Hot
The Way We Were
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

I agree that Robert Redford is in a class of his own. I caught a little bit of The Way We Were on TV the other week. He looked great, he was perfect for the part, and had great chemistry with Streisand. The ending is sad, though. I'm such a sucker for sad endings.   :-[

Seen all of them. All great movies. I totally dig old movies and old songs too.

I haven't heard of any of these movies. I don't think I watch channels that show trailers, so I never know what's going on. What genres are these movies? I am going to check some of these out.

These are all hidden gems, not your very mainstream movies. the are typically not advertized as much and one of them from the list is going to win the Oscar for 2013. I am going to see Gravity this Saturday night which is a sci-fi but not a typical sci-fi flick. All of them are quite good in fact. If you have access to Netflix then you should be able to find most of them. I hope you like at least some of them if not all that is, if you do decide to watch. The subject matter of these movies might not just be for everyone.

I really liked No Way Out and feel it's quite underrated. In reality, it has a very tight plot and it's quite intense. Very good movie.

Loved Dial M for Murder as well. There's a remake of it in the late 90s or early 00s but of course, it can never beat the original.

I was reading your other post where you said you didn't care that much for block buster movies, and I am the same way. I loved No Way Out and Dial M for Murder.

There's another sleeper that I liked a lot too, a very obscure movie named Dream for an Insomniac with Jennifer Aniston, Astin McKenzie, and I don't remember the other female's name. But, you would probably like it.
