I especially liked the closing lines,

Within a crucible of pain

This one is very beautiful...a great story told in these words.
I especially like this part,
"One more step
Hardest of all to take
Yet sometimes shortest 2

Kind of gives you hope that the pain or nightmare is almost over.
I saw him once
In days gone by
When I was young
And corn was high
Now seasons change
We had to part
He leaves no trace
Except in my heart
Yet now and then
I think of him
I hear his voice
Upon the wind
His strength and touch
Are with me still
In dead of night
When all is still
