I know, that's how cool Andy is. He doesn't fall for the dumb stuff. He's also brutally honest. Andy is a genius and many people don't understand his psyche. I agree that Andy would rather play an intelligent match rather than rely on attrition, flashiness, or physicality. That's the good thing about being a fan, understanding the player's psyche and approach to the game. I like a player when both of those things mesh. Everything about Andy's personality suggests he would play the game that way. It amazes me that people don't see that. Most importantly, Andy is in tune with himself, and that is a very attractive quality.

I thought that was stupid how people turned against Lleyton, but I feel it's because many people are easily influenced. Lleyton has always been honest, aboveboard, and respectful of his opponents. That goes a long way with me. In fact, that's the one trait that I despise the most, is when players are disrespectful of other players. Just play the game, I don't have time for mind games and manipulations. Even when they tried to blow up that "racist" comment with Blake, I thought they were being silly. Maybe he shouldn't said, but it was plausible that what he said really was true. Now, people are warming back up to him simply because the commentators have changed their tune. It amazes me how many people don't take the time to process anything and instead rely on others to do their thinking for them.

The WTA definitely was better back then, but what I do enjoy about the women's game is that many times you can't predict the result. Except for Serena, but Serena is in a class of her own.

This Friday I went to see Andy vs Tsonga and there was this 17/18 year old girl sitting with her dad just right next to me. She knew very little tennis as she couldn't tell what makes a double fault etc. but perhaps because of her father, who just might be more of a true tennis fan, she knew the players a bit. She was cheering Tsonga on but I am sure it was obvious to her that I was cheering Andy on. Anyway during the 2nd set we struck up a conversation as she had asked something and her father didn't know the answer so I had to volunteer since I knew the answer. As the conversation went on for a brief period of time she told me that the reason she was cheering Tsonga on was because she finds Andy 'grumpy'. I told her that I was a fan of Andy not because of the way he is on court but rather I am a fan of his game. I also told her that Andy isn't really 'grumpy' but the fact that he strives for perfection and when he makes mistakes, he gets a bit mad at himself. I had to tell her that in Federer's earlier days, he used to throw temper tantrum pretty much on a regular basis. But in any case we should like a player for who they are but not because how we like to see them.

I can tell you that girl wouldn't want to change a thing about her own self if others were to point that out. Anyway, her cheering became louder and louder as the match went on leaving me with a headache. lolol. She was just doing a bit much I thought. Luckly though, I had several kids sitting all around me and I had 5 guys (all friends I believe) sitting in front me and they were all pulling for Andy in a very big way. In fact, I was sitting in the midst of a lot of Andy fans. I realized after his Olympic, USO and finally, his Wimbledon win Andy has really arrived with his own fanbase. Back in 2010, when I was there to see Andy vs Rafa and Nole vs Roger, I didn't see half as many fans. That was so nice to see. Despite her loud cheering, it felt really great. She's still a kid though so I didn't mind it too much. She was there to have some fun and that's all she was doing.

Anyway, my point in all this is that, you don't judge people based on what you see. Seeing does not always tell you the whole truth.

As to Lleyton, yes, that Blake incident went really overboard and that's what made a lot of fans hate him back then, because they all thought Hewitt was being a racist. Even I felt the linsperson was favouring Blake on those calls and Lleyton felt so strongly about it that he just couldn't hold it for too long and had to point it out. He never meant to be a racist. I've seen mothers supporting their sons blindly who have committed murders. It happens. This sort of support happens in all races and religions in fact. I can point it out without being racist but it will be hard to get past the ignorant ones. I thought all those who hated Lleyton back then were all ignorant of the situation and took things out of context on purpose. Mainly because it really suited their arguments and they already didn't like him because of his 'come on's so this was just the perfect excuse to pour out some more hatred him. It was merely an opportunity for them and was never the truth. Tomic also gets a lot of hatred. People need to give these youngsters a break. In time they'll learn. Let's not be too quick to judge.

As far as WTA is concerned, I just don't like the type of game they play these days and that despite the tour being unpredictable. It just doesn't make a very good viewing for me.

I think you can judge based on seeing, but I also think you have to examine more than one aspect of a person or their personality. So to me to sum a person up in one word implies that you're being a bit narrow-minded. When people describe Andy as grumpy, Federer as elegant, or Rafa are physical, I think you're only seeing one part of the picture. For example, Andy can get down on himself during a match, but is also reflective immediately after a match showing his ability to move on rather quickly. He is also humorous, good-natured, kind, and respectful. So to lump a person into a one word adjective speaks of someone who is one-dimensional in their own thought process and prone to allowing others to do their thinking for them. Nah, I can't get with that.
