Rafa derails Nishikori in straights.

Nishikori is really good. he has a very bright future.

Thanks for the stats General.  Nishikori played a fine match and deserved at least a set, but Rafa was too tough in the clutch and Kei not tough enough when he really needed it in a point here or there.  Nadal played too far back again at times.  I think Kei was successful on the drop shot at least 7 out of 8 or 9 chances and hit many angled winners.  But Rafa did enough to win and is through to play Grigor Dimitrov in the QF.

Federer dismantled a fair-good Tsonga in the evening match in a masterclass performance - check the net stats.  He'll meet Andrew Murray, OBE, in the QF.

Here are the stats.

Respectfully,
masterclass

Some of the players like Del Potro, Tsonga etc. came out really flat in this tournament. Nishikori and Dimitrov looked much better in this instance.

The new appointment of Edberg has added some confidence in Federer no doubt but how long that affect will last that is the question since the game remains the same.

i found nadal to be slow and sluggish in this match. he returned relatively poorly and he pushed way too many balls back. he did much better when he chose to hit the balls back off both wings.

its not a biting, stinging slice. he has to realize that all these guys can go after those chipped balls that just sit up waiting and begging to be killed.

i saw a picture of his blood blister on his hand. i will post it here if i can find it again. it has to be painful. he said it was not hurting but i am not buying it.

as for the playing too far back, i think put himself in that position by pushing so man balls back and also hitting so short.

on the average, i did not see much depth in his shots. even a few of his approach shots would land short which led nishikori to produce stinging passing shots.

i am rating nadal's performance as quite poor last night. i give him a C.

it is not going to get any easier for him so he has to try to find a better form ASAP. it is the business end of the tournament.

thanks for posting the stats for the Federer match general masterclass.

100 points for Federer and 72 for Tsonga suggests domination.

Tsonga never stood a chance.

Yes.  Roger was tough on his friend Jo.  Here is Tsonga's post match interview transcript:

Day 8 - Tsonga interview transcript

By the way, what do you think the day 10 schedule will look like?

Do you think #1 Nadal will get the evening match vs. Dimitrov, or will it be #4 Murray vs. #6 Federer?
