General, I'm not sure what their obsession is with thread titles lately at MTF.

Again, this user Time Violation, who has been promoted to Admin there, has changed an interesting, perhaps provocative, sure to grab attention title, to a boring one in the name of being "nice or positive".

Title was:  "Is Gasquet the biggest vulture ever?"

Time Violation, obviously eager to try out his new Admin powers, edited the title to:   "Is Gasquet actually the best ATP 250 player ever?"

Why change it? Agree or disagree, what harm did it cause?  It also changed the meaning of the thread.

I think some of these mods/admins are overdoing it and cutting off the livelier personalities and cutting off their own forum discussion in the process.

Over moderation can kill a forum just like under moderation if not sooner.

I mean, sure, you have to lay down the law when a poster is abusive, or attacking other fellow posters or making death threats or something, but titles?

Respectfully,
masterclass

That's just absurd.  I'm so glad I left.

I remember getting banned because mods deleted a thread I made, calling it trolling (it wasn't), and I removed the "trolling" portion and reposted it and I got banned for "editing over a moderator's change."

That place is a disaster.  Shame because it used to be a ton of fun.  Now it's a trash heap.

Talk Tennis is a great forum more for actual tennis playing and gear discussion, not so much pro discussion.

This is a good fallback site for MTF refugees.  But if someone opened up a purely tennis MTF 2.0 with better moderation, it would be huge I think.

agreed general Moonball Pusher.

talk tennis is a little better now days. they used to be pretty bad with banning and infracting the hell out of people.

they actually banned me for good for talking about Camelot at one of my threads.

at any rate I wont go back to MTF. it constitutes zero value for me.

I never gave them permission to wipe out all the castles that were accumulated at the castle thread. that was all part of the beginning history of those threads and how we built them slowly and surely.

they just keep shooting themselves in the foot.

just giver them 1 more year. there wont be anybody left there but a few legless, gutless, assless, toothless trolls.

I'm very sorry to interrupt you on something I know nothing about but relating it partially to real-life it can be very similar in that some people in authority can't handle their authority & decide to show it off because they let it get to their heads. They don't realise that there are actually 2 main ways of exerting power. 1 is by teaching you well & being nice to you so you will want to do what they say & you govern yourself & you don't realise power is being exerted because you are mainly governing yourself but adhering to the rules. The other way is by getting heavy-handed & throwing your weight around. People feel less comfortable if you exert your power the 2nd way & normally just do what they have to & don't say anything to you unless they're forced. Consequentially, people don't have as much fun.

you are not interrupting lady Ann.

you are welcome here. please stop by anytime and post as much as your heart desires.

and that is an excellent post by the way.

at Camelot we are different: everybody here is a valued Camelot family member.

we are just family here.  supportive of each other no matter what our family members wish to do or say.

Camelot stands for freedom.

it is your kingdom to enjoy.

anybody caring much about the China Open?

andy is a safe bet with no djokovic around.

I expect rafa to get derailed after 2 matches. I cant see him getting past the quarterfinals.

To be honest I'm pretty checked out of ATP right now.  Fed is gone, so that's part of it.  And I find the tour highly boring.  Djokovic is gone, which is nice, but overall I'm pretty checked out.  I'm still recovering from Stan's win at the USO.

Thank you very much, Clay. I was going on the fact that until I joined the only forum I'd been on was a v.l.e. for my E.C.D.L. course to help others in my class, ask for help if I needed it & find out any extra work set by the tutor because we were on a taught course with classes on Mondays, a lot of bank holidays & expected to do it in the same amount of time as those with classes on other days. I do know a bit about real life & different forms of power though. The ideal form of power is a mixture of the 2.

Great post general.

I have left several forums because of not just excessive moderation but out of control moderation.

I believe it is out of control at MTF.

It is at a point where they are just pursuing their own agendas.

They forget one very simple observation:

They serve at the pleasure of folks who choose to spend their limited and precious time there.

And  now people have endless options with a vast array social media innovations.

Most forums are dead or in the process of dying. Only 2 large forums can be considered somewhat active: Tennis Warehose and MTF.

that is only because they are owned and supported by companies/corporations.

Even then these are mere shadows of what they used to be.

Talk Tennis (Tennis Warehouse) has a good thing going and they better not screw it up.  But they will, eventually.  I already see people in the Q&A forum there crying about moderation, or lack thereof.

MTF thinks it's God's gift to the tennis world and that posting there is some sort of special privilege.  Mods there are complete idiots.  Enforcing their political and tennis agendas through ambiguous and stupid rules.

I got a year-long ban for calling Marion Bartoli a lesbian cow.

I got another ban for agreeing with something Dologpolov said.

And now I'm banned for life because I called someone a cuck, lmao.

that is 100% spot on general.

believe it or not but I actually got a personal message from a mod who was apologizing to me for the quick rush to judgment of another mod.

I will have to log in to that toxic dump to actually find out who the hell he was he was apologizing. it might have been Time Violation but I am not sure.

I will check it out and post it here.

some idiot mod took a cheap shot at me there. it might have been Time Violation.

ok I got it now. it was a personal message from MWW to me. here it is in its entirety:

------------------------

your thread

I regret to have to read a rather embarrassing exchange between yourself and Time Violation. He has seen a lot in his time on this board with some extremely stubborn and uncompromising posters who can make mods' life hell, and perhaps why his attitude towards you wasn't the greatest, though of course not excusable. Naturally as a moderator, he also has to defend the site moderation when it is being challenged (not necessary implying we are right all the time, of course).

For me, as one of the youngest moderators on the site (and one of the lesser experienced, started in October last year after 9 months on the forum), I have tried to merge moderator and poster values together. You will see that it is hard to balance this well. We'll have some posters who think we are too overzealous in our moderation and banning, while others consider us too lenient and let too many trolls post etc. If you walk onto the next site, tennisforum, their posters will say very different things about how TF is run and moderated. I am the greatest moderator on this site to some, and also the worst moderator on this site to others and both stand to be correct!

Thus I think it would be worthwhile to have a positive discussion on the issue. Your concerns have lead me to start a thread for mods to consider amending the 'moderator change edit' rule. The issue sometimes is with whether mods apply a liberal approach, or by the book. By the book is the 'easiest' approach but does have its difficulties at times and doesn't take into account poster motivation or intent. Originally the rule was set to prevent troll posters who would repost problematic posts after they had been deleted. I definitely think how the rule is applied these days has drifted from the original intent and we do have complaints about it. You won't be the first nor the last so I hope the mod team can sit and come up with suitable revision.

The situation with your thread arose based on reports that your thread title 'directly quoted' off Stan and was considered misinformation. I would not have made any changes if it were up to myself because I did not see any intentional malice or attempt to confuse with the information. Only a few posters found objection to it and reported it. Legal aspects are probably the most difficult for moderators to really apply. I remember in another case, a poster who contributes interesting articles got reported for sending in a complete article, someone reported it and cited 'copyright' infringements. There is also a hidden rule that posters should avoid posting 'getty images' based on similar ownership and IP laws. So I regret that this situation has happened but it's something we can all learn from.

There are some situations where seemingly strict rules have purpose. Slasher1985 introduced a policy that posters must use objective thread titles when reporting match result threads or WWW threads, and in polls. You will see this is a far cry from tennisforum where player nicknames are often used. The importance of the rule on our site is to avoid derogatory language and player bashing, as well as to make archival of results easier as the players' actual names and score are very clear to see.

I hope you can contend with us. We are a small team and we don't always satisfy everyone's wishes. We can't and even more so because of our diversity in nationalities, gender, beliefs and age. But we hope to be open to suggestions to make the forum run smoother. In fact your return to the forum was only possible because of such suggestions regarding permaban policies.

Berdych can snag small tiles here and there but he just cant deal with the top guns at bigger events.

Tomas Berdych has retained his Shenzhen Open title after a hard-fought 7-6 6-7 6-3 victory over Richard Gasquet.

It was a first ATP World Tour title for the Czech world No 8 since he claimed the Stockholm Open crown almost a year ago.

Berdych had his serve broken by his French opponent in the very first game of the final but fought back and took the opening set 7-5 on a tie-break.
