Dodig/Melo Win Shanghai Doubles Title; Improve London Qualification Chances

Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo improved their chances of qualifying for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals for the first time by capturing the Shanghai Rolex Masters title on Sunday.

The fifth seeds defeated eighth-seeded Spaniards and fellow London contenders David Marrero and Fernando Verdasco 7-6(2), 6-7(6), 10-2, in a thrilling final, for their first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 crown that was also their first team title.

The Croatian-Brazilian team earned $226,000 and 1,000 Emirates ATP Ranking points for their victory in one hour and 44 minutes, and moved up to third position in the Emirates ATP Doubles Team Rankings.

I was able to see the 2nd set of Del Potro vs Nadal match. Wish I had seen it all but I woke up late and it was already in the 2nd set. Very nice and authoritative performance from DP. He blew Nadal off the court at times. The power he has and with slightly faster court, it really helped him and he was also fresh coming into the semi. Nadal already has a very long season behind him but I noticed his confidence level moves up and down with the amount of errors he makes. So it's incredibly important for him to keep the UEs to the minimum if possible and more often than not, he's successful but certainly not always.

Delpo still without a masters title. I really thought in Indian Wells and perhaps here, he deserved to win the title more so than anyone else. Just my opinion.

being 6 foot 6 helps. del potro has enormous easy power off the ground with that size.

he has also improved his serve so he is very difficult to deal with. poor guy is still without a single masters series shield.

that is just how tough it is today.

as for nadal, he is clearly spent. he has used up quite a bit of mental and physical capital in taking all that he has taken. winning 10 titles with such a demanding style of play would kill just about anybody else. he may have hit the wall.

this is why I cant see nadal taking anymore titles this year.

I was rooting for federer. I guess it was just not meant to be.

now nole gets monfils and nadal gets wawrinka.

Why were you rooting for Federer? Anyway, as I've already mentioned in one of my posts here, Federer now has a whole new army to deal with. He's not getting younger and these players are playing better as their reaching that age. Federer can only sneak in if he gets a very nice draw and that will be hard to get in Masters or Majors. And he's more keen on that.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't really have much confidence in monfils. he has been too inconsistent for too long.

roger on the other hand is pretty good on fast hard courts. I wanted a to see a tough nole vs roger battle.

I agree with you. It is only going to get harder and harder from here on out. he is going to have to work really hard if he wants to stay a factor in the game.

emma I did it again. I was not paying attention and I hit the modify button when trying to respond to your post.

this is what happens when I am trying to do too many things at the same time.

No worries. I can still read it. You can fix it though.

Anyway, ah I see your angle now. It would have been interesting to see Federer against Nole no doubt - especially from Federer's side. I think he'd be more keen on playing the top players than, say, others like Monfils, Raonic, Berdych, Isner etc. He did play very well against Nadal not so long (at Cincy if I remember correctly) so who knows. He has WTF coming up however if though qualifies. I think that's a tournament that will tell a lot of about Federer and what he can look forward to come next year. I hear he has also fired Paul. So who's next or is he going to be on his own? Because I was a huge Sampras fan I can relate to all this - how he and his fans feel but most importantly, how both of them are going to handle the retirement should that also be on the card.  Keep in mind, Sampras retired all of a sudden. Nothing was planned. So who knows what kind of fate is ahead of Federer though he does have a huge fan following so that's something he'll need to take seriously into account before planning for retirement.

Nadal might be spent but Nole should be spent too but instead he has just gone on and defended two back to back titles. I think this season, the Asian swing in particular, suits both Nole and Murray better. It used to be Federer as well. Shanghai is not indoors but it has all the elements of an indoor tournament.

Nole had a long season too. Won the AO, made the final of Wimbledon and USO, lost to Nadal at the RG semi. Those are some tough losses but bounced back right after the USO. It was however a good strategy on his part that he didn't go for too much for the clay tournaments this year. So he should be slightly fresher than Nadal at this point of the year, but I am still convinced this part of the season suits him better than Nadal.

"thetruth" is a she.

she is a wonderful addition to the Camelot society lady emma.
she really knows her stuff and she is very fair to all the players. i believe she likes nadal and andy.

I think we should consider redefining ourselves by the way. there are already too many tennis forums.
i have been doing some thinking. let me know what your take is on this also. maybe we should be a "society" as opposed to a "forum".
we can just look at ourselves as a small but elite Camelot society.

there must be 10 million forums of one kind or another on the net.

this new idea will also keep us from acting and looking like a forum. we can keep things simple this way.

i hear ya. nole is just far more brutally efficient as a tennis player:

1. he serves bigger
2. his return is the biggest in history. everything comes back.
3. he plays close to the baseline so he gives up zero court.
4. he is beyond rock solid off both wings so he can control the center of the court better than anybody on the planet.
5. nole is taller than nadal so he has more leverage. that means he has easy power.

so beating nole is no easy matter. nadal has to summon all of his will and all of mental and physical energies.

I shall keep her on her toes and make sure she speaks the truth and nothing but the truth. I tease!

It's very good that we have a fan like her. The more the merrier!

I like your suggestions. Let me give some thoughts to it. Will get back to you later on this.

What's up everyone :)

Grigor is playing in Stockholm and just won the first set against Copil. His game is just horrible at the moment, though. Let's see if Rasheed can be of immediate help!

rasheed is a great coach and a great motivator general tee.

lets hope he can get dimitrov going again.

did you see that we are tinkering around with the idea of just calling this place an elite Camelot tennis society? there are millions and millions of forums on the net already.

this is something different. and it may work for us since all we will ever be is a small place.

and small works for me by the way. we will have 200 or so members in about 3 years and that is all we ever need to be.

what is your take on this new idea?

Sounds good. It is true there are many tennis forums out there. Quality over quantity is always a good idea :)
