I watched a couple of doubles matches and I noticed that the Bryans have been slumping by their standards. Naturally, it isn't a big deal because people don't seem to care about doubles as much as they do singles. Anyway, it made me think, why is no constant reporting of their "decline"? I think it's because everyone slumps. No one stays on top forever, in sports or in life. Life is transitional and constantly filled with ups and down. That's why, to me, I don't ascribe to the "it's this", "it's that" theories. Everyone gets their time in the sun. It's that simple. Things must change in order for the new to come forth. All we have to do is follow the order of nature. Nature is what it is, and it doesn't change based on our whims. It simply follows the natural order. That's something humans can try to understand as well.

Having said that, doubles viewing does come with a caveat:

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. -- Around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, there were so many people piled up waiting to get into the brand new Stadium 2 here at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden that you would've thought Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal were about to square off for a Grand Slam championship inside.In reality, the throng was just waiting for a first-round doubles match.

Rafael Nadal paired with fellow Spaniard Fernando Verdasco in the men's doubles event here at the BNP Paribas Open, an event often applauded for drawing some of the sport's biggest singles stars into the doubles mix. For their first match, they were drawn against the iconic American duo of Bob and Mike Bryan. It was staged Saturday night at the new 8,000-seat venue at which you can watch tennis while you eat at a pop-up version of the famous Nobu restaurant, if you can't stand the thought of a bratwurst.

This year's tournament figured to suffer in interest with an injured Federer bowing out, Maria Sharapova skipping it after announcing last week she had failed a drug test, and Venus Williams losing in her first match at the grounds since 2001. Still, the announced gate Saturday was a single-day record for the tournament. And the day's main event was a first-round doubles match.

In his on court post match interview, Bob Bryan said, put Nadal out there, it doesn't matter whether it's mixed doubles or brushing his teeth, people are going to come.

He really is. The crowds are crazy for him, everywhere he goes. He's such a genuine person and I think that's what is translated to the masses.
