I have been saying for the longest that rafa wont give his backhand a chance to get in the groove.
in this article they mention it too.
only way to make it work is to just hit it. there is nothing to fear. it is one of the best backhands in the world.
he has to have a fully functioning backhand in order to take the big titles this year. it affects his whole game:
1. it affects his return
2. it affects his court positioning. he ends up giving them too much court
3. it gives them too much predictability. they know where he is going with his forehand most of the time now
he is winning now anyway but the game could be so much easier for him if he fixes the backhand issue.
I am still puzzled by Rafa's comments and demeanor. On the one hand he seems realistic, but on the other hand, I don't know, something that I can't quite put my finger on. I'll have to think about it.
