Can you change the image to Real Housewives of Atlanta? That's the reality show we talk about the most.

Nadal No Longer 'Immovable' Object in Paris, Says Courier

By REUTERSMAY 18, 2015, 7:12 P.M. E.D.T.

LONDON — Nine-times French Open champion Rafa Nadal will no longer be regarded as an "immovable obstacle" at Roland Garros this year, according to twice former winner Jim Courier.

The American, who ruled the claycourt grand slam in 1991 and 1992, has watched the Spaniard's increasing vulnerability on the red dust with interest in the build-up to the year's second grand slam which begins in Paris on Sunday.

While Courier believes the best-of-five-set format means Nadal remains formidable, he makes world number one Novak Djokovic favorite followed by Japan's Kei Nishikori.

"For the first time in many years Nadal will not be the favorite going into Roland Garros," Courier, who will commentate on the tournament for British channel ITV, said.

"That role is now firmly occupied by Novak Djokovic. Nadal is less vulnerable in Paris, given the best of five-set format which allows him more time to problem solve but there are now guys in the locker room who see him as an opportunity rather than an immovable obstacle."

Nadal was beaten by Stanislas Wawrinka in the quarter-finals of the Rome Masters, following his defeat by Andy Murray in the Madrid Masters final the week before.

The 28-year-old Spaniard also lost to Djokovic in Monte Carlo and has looked nowhere near the player who has lost only one match at Roland Garros in 10 years of domination.

Djokovic, beaten in last year's final by Nadal, has been in electrifying form and after beating Roger Federer to win the Rome title on Sunday looks to have a golden opportunity to complete his career grand slam.

That favorites tag will bring its own pressures, though, and Nadal, who will be seeded outside the top four, is not the only threat to the Serb's hopes of a first French Open.

"Murray is most certainly a threat to go very deep and, if the draw breaks in his favor, a final is attainable," Courier said.

"Once you reach the final, anything goes -- especially now that Nadal is playing like a mortal on the clay again.

"Kei Nishikori is my second favorite behind Djokovic and I firmly believe he is the second best claycourt player today.

"Also, Nick Krygios has the game, aggressive energy and athletic ability to stir things up the way he did at Wimbledon last year and in Australia in January."

Courier may be right, but who needs to hear it? May the gods align to prove him wrong.

I think courier is wrong about nishikori.

nishikori had his chance against novak in rome. he is also not really durable enough to win a slam like RG.

nishikori is not the 2nd best clay court player on the planet after novak as courier is seeing it.

I am still thinking that Rafa might be able to reach deep and find that Rafa magic again. there really is no need to give up his kingdom. this is not the time for it.

it really is a matter of a little bit of luck in terms of draw, injuries, and the like. he just needs novak in the opposite 1/2 so he can find his rhythm and his groove as he makes his way to the final.

absolutely no injuries at this point.

I agree with your entire posts for the same reasons. Kei is nowhere near the stratosphere they've assigned him to, mainly because of durability as you stated.

Federer would be slightly behind Nole, should Rafa give up the ghost.

But as you said, we can't give up on Rafa. Anything can happen.

I really hope Mr. Arrogant doesn't win. What a horrible statement to make.

Wow! So soon. I was thinking that it was next week. That's not a lot of time to fix anything. Oh my. I don't know if I can handle this. I need some zen to get through this.

he just needs novak in the other 1/2 and he needs to get to the final.

I think he will find a way once he is in the final.

its a huge ask. he wasted an enormous amount of time when he could have been practicing on the red clay.

he would not be in this bind if he had taken a different course. he was reckless with his preparation for this clay season.

now his entire kingdom is on the line.

there is only a small hope but we will hang on to it. lets hope for some Rafa magic. maybe he will produce the fight of his life to defend and protect his soil.

he has given them everything else. it is time for him to put his foot down and put an end to this madness.

RG is his crown and they cant have it.

I hear you. There is a small chance, and he has been great at beating the odds and stifling the naysayers tongue. Pat McEnroe and Chris Evert are doing their usual bull crap spiel; how Rafa if he loses this RG it may be the end of his career, yada yada yada. They kill me. Chris still hasn't apologized for her open letter to Serena. Now, Serena has surpassed her. It just goes to show, you never know what will be happen, so it's better to not speak definitively about things that you don't know about.

Go Rafa!

PMac's older brother used to be a huge Rafa fan. johnny Mac was very high on Rafa once.

Andre Agassi still loves Rafa while Brad Gilbert and PMAC have backed away in my estimation.
