PMac's older brother used to be a huge Rafa fan. johnny Mac was very high on Rafa once.

Andre Agassi still loves Rafa while Brad Gilbert and PMAC have backed away in my estimation.

To me, PMac and Johnny Mac have positional power. They lay down the gauntlet for how the others are supposed to think. Years ago, Cliff Drysdale was praising Rafa effusively over the air and PMac got so nasty with him, it was uncomfortable. It was like PMac didn't even hold back. He forgot all of his professionalism. Cliff was stunned and then there was silence. As a listener it was horrible.

Afte that, Cliff didn't commentate for at least 6-9 months, but when he came back, he was sparing, it at all, his praise of Rafa. John is a master manipulator. He has everybody in his pocket and they do what he says too. Even Lindsey has backed down in her praise of Rafa. Agassi is the only one who isn't afraid of Johnny Mac. Andre says what he wants to say. The others? Not so much.

Melzer to Sousa in Geneva: If You Don’t Give Me the Point our Friendship Is Over

Things got a little strange on Wednesday between Jurgen Melzer and Joao Sousa at the Geneva Open. Okay, a LOT strange. On this deuce point at 3-all, set one, after Sousa scoops up a low-bouncing ball, Melzer halts play and starts to lecture his "friend," saying that what has just happened (Sousa, in Melzer's opinion, was cheating--the ball had grazed the ground before he hit it) was the worst thing that has ever happened to him from a friend and that if Sousa doesn’t give him the point it will be the end of the friendship.

Well, Sousa won the point and the match, but if Melzer meant what he said, he lost the friendship. Check out the video below:

From Facebook:

Rafael Nadal: I Am Ready for Roland Garros, I Can Go Far

"I just keep on going. Truth is that I am actually feeling very well on the court. I am more confident in what I am doing and the bad moments seem finally going away. I am not yet sure if it is going to be enough to play a great tournament, but for sure I am can't wait to play in it. I feel ready".

"The French Open is the most important tournament of the season for me. I am aware of the fact that I am arriving here in a different way compared to what it has been in the previous years, but my goal doesn't change. I am going to play in a place I know very well, on a court I love to play on, and that gives me more options to try and win as many matches as possible"

"I don't care about my seed or the spot I occupy in the rankings. Now all I focus on is to practice and be ready to compete in Paris. The first match will already tell more about my condition. If I am playing well I well get to play more matches. I am confident I can play well"

The umpire who defied Rafael Nadal pays the price

Carlos Bernardes, the last umpire to seriously challenge Nadal on points, has been withdrawn from Nadal's matches since and is unlikely to officiate him at Roland Garros.

FYI, I put this image of the main draw  in post 1 of the Roland Garros thread.

Haven't really analyzed this yet, but at first glance top half QF/SF rounds look toughest, and the earlier rounds look tougher for the bottom half of the draw.

Respectfully,
masterclass

tough draw for Rafa. lets see how it goes.

ROLAND GARROS 2015

Nadal Drawn In Same Quarter As Djokovic At Roland Garros

Paris, France

by ATP Staff
  | 22.05.2015

Rafael Nadal is a nine-time champion at Roland Garros, where he has a 66-1 match record.

Nine-time champion Rafael Nadal and World No. 1 Novak Djokovic were drawn in the same quarter of the Roland Garros draw on Friday.

Nadal, who is 66-1 at the clay-court major championship, could potentially meet Djokovic in a blockbuster quarter-final. It is a result of Nadal dropping to No. 7 in the Emirates ATP Rankings. Djokovic is bidding to capture his first Roland Garros trophy that would complete a career Grand Slam.

Sixth seed Nadal will start his quest for a 15th major title against Quentin Halys and could meet No. 10 seed Grigor Dimitrov in the fourth round, while Djokovic will face Jarkko Nieminen.

Nadal has a 23-20 FedEx ATP Head2Head lead against Djokovic, with victories over the Serbian in the 2012 final, 2013 semi-finals and 2014 final. Djokovic, a winner of eight Grand Slam crowns, won their most recent meeting in the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters semi-finals and is riding a 22-match winning streak.

Third seed Andy Murray, who is in the same half of the draw as Djokovic and Nadal, plays a qualifier in the first round. The 2011 and 2014 semi-finalist has a 10-0 record on clay courts this year, including two ATP World Tour titles. He is in the same quarter of the draw as seventh seed and 2013 runner-up David Ferrer, who challenges Lukas Lacko, and ninth seed Marin Cilic.

Second seed Roger Federer, the 2009 champion (d. Soderling) who will be making his 62nd Grand Slam championship appearance, will play a qualifier in the first round. He could potentially meet Gael Monfils, the No. 13 seed, in the fourth round. The pair has met three times at Roland Garros (2008-09, '11), but Monfils has won their past two clashes. Eighth seed Stan Wawrinka, who takes on Marsel Ilhan, could be a quarter-final opponent.

Fourth seed Tomas Berdych, who has reached the quarter-finals or better at every tournament he has contested in 2015, may need to beat No. 28 seed Fabio Fognini and No. 14 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga prior to a quarter-final against fifth seed Kei Nishikori. Berdych faces a qualifier in his first match, while Nishikori will meet Paul-Henri-Mathieu. Feliciano Lopez, the No. 11 seed, may be a fourth round opponent for Nishikori.

I am happy with him. He is the best example of a top class athlete that I've ever seen. I hope he wins. That would be awesome and stranger things have happened.

Disrespectful to talk about Nadal downfall says Sharapova

Reuters By Julien Pretot

PARIS (Reuters) - Predicting Rafa Nadal's downfall as he prepares to try and win a record-extending 10th French Open title is disrespectful to the Spaniard, double Roland Garros champion Maria Sharapova said on Friday.

For the first time in the build-up to the tournament Nadal has failed to win a claycourt title in Europe, his best result being a defeat in the final of the Madrid Masters against Briton Andy Murray this month.

"Everyone expects so much of Rafa at this time of the year. An individual loses a few matches, someone who's won this event, what is it nine times, I believe?

To put so many question marks, I almost think it's a little bit disrespectful," former world number one Sharapova of Russia told a news conference after the French Open draw ceremony.

"He's an incredible champion, and he has no reason to be here doing it again, and his will and motivation to keep doing it and to keep proving to himself that he can do it again is pretty remarkable.

"It's actually been a little bit sad, because if I was in his shoes I'd be a pretty accomplished and satisfied player. Here he is just grinding away and proving everyone wrong. I think that's pretty respectful."

Fourteen-times grand slam champion Nadal, who has struggled to rediscover his top form after injury and illness last year, was handed the toughest route in Friday's draw. He could have to beat Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, world number one Novak Djokovic of Serbia, Murray and 17-times grand slam champion Roger Federer, in that order, to win his 10th Roland Garros title in 11 years.
