CAMELOT FANTASIES

Hola TT, to be honest, I can't say I am a fan of any of the actresses I have in my signature. However, I am a fan of certain characters they played.  To be even more honest, if I were an actress, I would have deliberately had a very dull character off camera because then that would have allowed me to delve into different characters in the true sense, that I was going to play in different movies.  For example, you would have hardly seen me off camera. Marilyn Monroe was in fact so much bigger off camera that every character she played in different movies seemed like the same character she played in her real life.

Anyway, this Holy Golightly character was initially made for Marilyn Monroe as this story was loosely based on Truman Capote novella, so Capote was quite upset when he heard it was going to be Audrey who was going to play this famous role. The characters simply didn't fit each other. Audrey herself was a bit reluctant to play the role as she openly admitted one time that she couldn't possibly play the role of a hooker.  No one in fact could see her in such a role as she was quite the opposite in her own character and the other roles she was playing at that time were quite different than this. In any case, she was able to step out of that comfort zone she was in at that time and was able to portray it beautifully and effectively. She was even nominated for the Academy awards in the best actress category that year.

I do feel however that Marylin would have been a great cast as well but then again, one would have run the risk of playing the same character as real life and that wouldn't have required as much work as Audrey Hepburn put in into this character that was so opposite of her. The idea is and always to get out of one's own character and play entirely a different role after all. Otherwise I don't see how one should get an award for playing a role that is very much like his or her own self.
