Constellations Based off the Greek Myths

Greek astronomers in ancient times was started by seeking to rationally explain the phenomenon of the stars as it did their gods.
Today, their efforts are considered to be a major phase in the history of astronomy.

Listed below with their images...the stars and who they represented in ancient, Grecian times.

Andromeda

Princess of Ethiopia and daughter of Cassiopeia and King Cepheus of Ethiopia. Her mother compared her daughter’s beauty to the sea nymphs. For the insult, Poseidon demanded Andromeda’s sacrifice to the sea monster Cetus, in order to appease him. Rescued by Perseus, she eventually married him and became the great-grandmother of Hercules. For her story, she was granted immortality among the stars.

The golden ram sacrificed to Zeus by Phrixus, for bringing him safely to Colchis. Unfortunately, his sister, Helle, did not survive. In her honor, a narrow, natural waterway in northwestern Turkey was named after her.

Cancer

The crab who pinched Hercules on the foot, while fighting the Hydra. The goddess Hera immortalized him among the stars because she hated Hercules.
