Excerpt From Revenge - New Short Story

Selene quietly let herself into her boyfriend’s house. She was here to surprise him. He had been working so hard lately and she wanted to give him a little relaxing treat: her. She loved him, and always looked forward to when he was home so they could spend time together. When they first started dating, they spent almost every waking hour, outside of work, with one another. When he got this recent promotion a few months ago, their time together began to dwindle until it was down to one or two days per week. She remained dedicated to him, but missing him was so hard.

She turned the knob as she closed the door so she did not make any noise, and set her purse on the floor next to the hallway stand. She hung up her robe, which she had worn to cover up the fact that she had left her apartment with only a teddy and stockings underneath. He always loved seeing her dressed up in one of these in his favorite color – blue. This particular one was a royal blue with silver lace edging.

She tiptoed down the hallway to his bedroom in her stilettos, and paused when she got close. She heard talking. He must have left the television on when he fell asleep. Jaxon did that quite often when she stayed over, so she wouldn’t be surprised that was the case this time.

She crept closer and heard giggling. What in the world is going on?

She placed her hand on the doorknob to his room, turned it and opened it, and paused. The **** ****!

There, on the bed she helped him pick out, wrapped in the sheets she bought him, was her loving boyfriend with some ****! Working hard, was he? Bullshit! **** hard was more like it, the bastard.

She pushed the bedroom door open, with as much force as she could; making it hit the wall behind it, and surprising the two lovers on the bed.

“Selene! Wh-what are you doing here?” Jaxon sputtered as he attempted to unravel himself from the woman’s arms and the sheets.

“Oh, gee, I don’t know. Looks to me like I am watching my boyfriend, who loves me so much, **** another woman,” she replied sarcastically.

He finally stepped off the bed and wrapped the sheet around his hips as he walked toward her, slowly, as if approaching a wet cat.

“Selene, honey, it isn’t what it looks like. It doesn’t mean anything, she doesn’t mean anything. It just happened,” he pleaded pitifully.

“Really, Jaxon? Do you honestly think I am that stupid? You were doing exactly what it looks like!” she screamed at him. She was livid! Two damn years with this man and this is how it ends. Un **** believable!

“Jaxon, honey, who is that?” The chick in the bed asked, covering her breasts with a pillow as she sat up against the headboard.

He turned to face her and said, “It’s my girlfriend,” he answered.

“Ex-girlfriend,” Selene corrected him. There was no way she was staying with him after witnessing this. No way in hell. Seeing another woman in his bed, knowing what he had been doing with her, was about to destroy her!

“But you said you didn’t have a girlfriend,” the bimbo said, in a babyish voice from the bed.

“Shut the hell up, Tanya.” Jaxon said through gritted teeth.

“Why, Jaxon? Because she is giving away your secrets?” she asked him, and put her hand up to stop his excuse before he even had a chance to begin. “You know what? I don’t even want to hear what you have to say. Two…****…years, Jax! Two years, and this is how you treat me?” She turned around and left the room, Jaxon following along behind her.

“But baby! We haven’t seen each other in so long,” he started to say, but stopped himself when she whirled around to confront him.

“And whose fault is that, huh? It sure the hell isn’t mine! I have been here, right here, waiting for your calls and visits when you had time. I was willing to settle, these last few months, for any crumbs you dropped my way. I love you… I loved you, and gave you everything I had. Well, I am done! I am better than what I have become and I sure in the hell deserve more than a lying, cheating boyfriend. Good-bye, Jaxon.” The hurt that coursed through her at the realization that this was the end, that he had betrayed her in this way, was overwhelming. She fought hard to keep the tears at bay. There was no way she was going to break down in front of him. He just showed her that he wasn’t worth it.

She grabbed her robe and purse, and left the house. She didn’t even bother looking back until she got to her car, and when she did turn, she saw him waiting there in the doorframe watching her.

She just shook her head as a tear made its way down her cheek. Oh, she may be hurt, dying inside, but she would survive and make him pay. She would have her revenge.
