Anyone know how the final 8 is turning out? Has Berdych qualified yet? Raonic took a hit recently.

Glad Rafa isn't playing. Not worth the risk. I wish he would let Basel and Paris go as well.

Basel and Valencia are both happening at the same time TT so Rafa can't be in both tournaments.

Anyway, thanks for the draw masterclass. Andy's qtr looks rather tricky with Fognini, Klizan, Kohlschreiber, Andserson etc. but perhaps one match at a time.

You're welcome, Emma. I wouldn't be surprised to see either Ferrer or Murray, or both falter, and maybe get a bit of rest before Paris. The tournament in Vienna seemed tough on them.  They were barely holding it together for much of that last set.  Too bad they are drawn together for the 3rd straight tournament.  :(

Could be an opportunity for somebody else in their half, maybe Klizan or Anderson? This tournament has fairly good depth of 10-30 ranked players. In the bottom half Berdych played a good tourney in Stockholm. Maybe he'll continue here.

Many struggle with holding their form this time of the year. Let's see who has it for the final push.

I said Basel and Paris, Valencia is in Spain, isn't it?

Hola masterclass, I thought Anderson vs Kohlschreiber would be a cracker today but it was a pretty straight forward win for Anderson instead, so he's definitely looking good. Perhaps Klizan vs Anderson will be more interesting.

I am sure Andy is at least somewhat knackered but so should be both Ferrer and Berdych and that really opens up the window for each one. Even with Isner gone, Berdych still has Robredo, Dolgo/Lopez in front him so it's not as given.

Ferrer is definitely a threat especially given the hometown factor but Andy has won this title before in 2009. He needs to though keep his matches as short as possible so that he can save as much energy as possible.

And Ferrer has Youzhny to deal with before he meets with Andy in the semi and that's not going to be easy. Youzhny has done quite well here in Valencia in the past and has the lead over Ferrer in the H2H.

So let's see.

The confusion isn't geographical. This is the thread for Valencia and Nadal isn't playing here. He's in Basel. Paris is next week. You said "Glad Rafa isn't playing", because of that, it's easy to misunderstand especially when you had entered your chain of thought in a separate paragraph. On a second read, I assume you meant WTF but that's not final yet.

No confusion. I go in all threads, regardless of geographical location to trash Nadal for playing through this period. I never thought he was playing in Valencia, just another place to let my displeasure be felt.

No worries. I just misunderstood when I first read it. :)

But Berdych is gone to Andujar. What up with that? Youzhny is gone too and that hurt. Both Ferrer's draw and the bottom half have opened up with these losses. Berdych, Simon, Isner all gone. Hope Dolgo makes it to final from this half.

Anderson received a walkover from Klizan. Not sure about the reason - perhaps injured? So it will be Anderson for Andy if he makes past Fognini.

Congratulations on Andy Murray beating David Ferrer. He looked too tired to me to do so over the last couple of matches, but he evidently saved something.  Thought it was going to be easier then it was once into the match.

Andy had a 1 set and double break lead, but as he has done many times this year just started falling apart, and David took advantage and took the lead.  Murray even looked on his last legs and said as much, and started just hitting everything aggressively instead of the soft stuff he had hit most of the match, and it worked.  Ferrer couldn't quite deal with it, and started getting tight a bit himself and Murray just continued hitting hard and in the end, snatched the victory when it looked like David was going to turn it around behind the partisan crowd.

Congrats to Andy.  Condolences to David.   Murray leads Ferrer in the Fall fights 2-1. :)

Yeah, that was surprising, especially since Tomas seemed to be very focused as he tried to qualify for the year end. Hopefully, he'll get back on track. Still, since Rafa officially pulled out, maybe his position is a bit stronger, though not certain.

With this win, Andy is now officially 5th in the race and 6th in the year ranking. I want him to tank Paris - perhaps just win one match and lose to Dimitrov or Mayer, rest up for the rest of the week and get ready for WTF.
