will surely post here once in a while hercules......what's new with you and co. here? i haven't followed much tennis at all after wimbledon last year......just lost a bit of an interest in the sport and other things took over as well.......

rafa seems to be having problems defending his clay titles this season.......let's see what happens at RG......and did you watch our indian team reach the semis in the cricket world cup? ms dhoni lead the team quite well once again but we were a little off colour in the semis and that was enough for the aussies at home to take us out.......

nice pics.......did you guys notice, nole wasn't too OTT with his celebration? perhaps does not want to mess with rafa's clay ego with roland garros around the corner?

Hola Shank, 2014 is a very different year than, say, 2011. Back then Nole enjoyed his win over Nadal or even Federer and so he should. Actually I found Nadal's celebration after beating Murray in Rome a bit OTT but I didn't take it personally. Anyway, this time winning Rome beating Nadal again was only a repetition of that so I don't think there was much to celebrate anyway.

I read somewhere Nole has donated all his Rome prize money to the flood victims in his country. I was very moved by it because the footage looked terrible and they do need as much as help as possible. So to give all his hard earned money right away for a cause like that is always a great deed. Hope people noticed that and appreciated a great deal.

hola emmz.......novak is often noticed for wrong things than right things.......that donation which you pointed out, had fed done a similar thing the tennis world would have blown all their sweet trumpets at once.......

novak seems to be respecting rafa a lot more after what happened in 2013.......many people marked 2011 as nadal's end at the top of the sport but how he turned it around against nole is simply historic, it will be talked for several generations.......

I agree. I think Nole saw his breakthrough as the changing of the guard. I think he was shell-shocked to see that Nadal would not go away quietly. He tuned his celebrations down, and is better to watch as a result.

yep, there was no change of guard.......just outright hit-back-hard stuff from rafa......i think rafa is the only player who took care of two red hot all time greats right in their primes.......fed in 2008 and nole in 2013.......

Hola Shank, how's it going? Yep, I agree with you. I think Nadal should ease up and only focus on USO.

Andy, on the other hand, needs complete opposite focus. He really needs to do well here and at Cincy. Due to his ranking drop, he'll have to play the first round here in Toronto, I am afraid. And I can't even imagine the kind of draw he'll get at USO. But one tournament at a time.

Nole is probably the most consistent player of all time. He's so focused all the time and despite all those terrible losses that I find it utterly amazing.

i am doing fine, emma.......murray needs a lot of time to build that form and rhythm all over again.......he can target the next season if you ask me.......as for djoko, he is incredibly resilient.......nobody was talking about him at wimbledon, he just put a steady and stern show and took away the title in the end.......

howdy hercules and company?

good to be checking this forum once in a while.......i am not posting anywhere these days except sometimes at talk tennis.......as for toronto 1000 it will be difficult for rafa to defend the title, cinci too.......rafa should target the us open again and take it easy with the 1000s.......he doesn't need to pick up an injury for us open.......last year he was on a roll, so he won everything.......not this time, this is the time to take a cautious approach and save himself for the us open.......

que pasa general shanks.

I never saw the match general. I also never bothered to deal with the award ceremony.

its over and done with. I am waiting for Rafa to lift his 9th RG trophy now.

I firmly believe that he will do it. he is good at turning losses around.

also he does not lose any RG finals. I believe he will play a vary focused and a very clean match in the final at RG.

greetings hercules.......he might somehow get away with a win again.......let's just hope that he is fit for the entire slam.......we don't need any injuries now.......the competition is fierce this time.......

greetings to all btw......

i have a bad feeling that murray will beat nadal tomorrow.......

hola hercules and castle!

i am back from holiday, completely tanned and looking brown like nadal...... :D missed almost the entire AO but just in time for the final......

i was so sure wawrinka was going to pose problems for djokovic, i actually wanted to watch that match but couldn't......i saw the highlights today, wawrinka was superb.......too bad he is going to lose to nadal tomorrow but i will take the result as it will only tie rafa with the great pete and also one step closer to the all time tally.......

djokovic seriously needs to rethink his strategy against the likes of wawrinka, haas, dimitrov.......he is having problems picking which way the backhands are directed and hence losing half a second in the rally.......add to that his problems against slice......slice really takes away the zing off his backhand, neutralizes the rally completely and puts him on the defense.......

morning general shanks.

stan played the match of his life against nole. he hung in there and waited for his opportunities.

nole caved just a little bit in the very end under the relentless pressure.

this pressure came in 2 forms:

1. pressure of stan's game

2. pressure of defending the crown

he must have felt that his chances might slip away and sure enough they did.

stan learned a lot from his match against nole in 2013 right here. he came in with a solid plan and executed it to near perfection.

when you can't hit through djokovic, off foot him and open up the court.......that is what stan did......his off backhands were on fire and all through the match djokovic din't know which way they were going......stan backhand kept djokovic honest right through the match......it was a brilliant match from stan.......

Rafael Nadal Center / Re: Rafa 2013 hard court. Best play.
« on: January 15, 2014, 12:57:15 pm »
Everybody knows Rafa is the best clay court player ever lived.

What happened this year was that Rafa ruled hard courts too.

What is your favorite tournament on hc from Rafa, and which hc do you think suit his game?

the final of us open 2013 is his best play.......it was a combination of sheer brilliance and guts.......he blazed away in the first set and lost control in the second and the match was running away from him at 1 set all and 0-2 15-30 down on his serve.......how he managed to turn it around is just history.......big history.......an extraordinary inside out forehand to make it 30-30, a big serve and forehand to make it 30-30, an ace down the center to close the game.......djokovic won just one game for the rest of the match......
