check this out. I just came across this article.
http://blogs.wsj.com/indiarealtime/2014/03/20/a-grim-statistical-picture-of-married-indian-women/?mod=e2tw
It's really shocking, because in today's world it is almost impossible to imagine people living in these conditions... in a reality long ago surpassed.
Women gained their independence with much struggle, and I just can not understand why in some cultures, such as Indian it isn't recognized and respected.
Besides this is just a universal right of every human. The basic right to come and go.
...And they are in the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS:
"Article 4, Freedom from slavery:
Nobody has the right to treat you as a slave, and you should not make anyone your slave."
"Article 5, Freedom from torture and degrading treatment: treatment:
Nobody has the right to torture, harm or humiliate you."
