How Christmas is celebrated in Greece

December 25th is the celebration of Jesus Christ's Birth

It's festive but we also attend church
Those who follow the Greek Orthodox religion.

Santa Claus is called Ayios Vasili

Interpreted as Saint Vasili (basil)
He distributes Christmas gifts on New Years Eve

Exchange of Christmas gifts on New Years Eve

I'm born and raised in Canada
My parents transitioned to the Canadian traditions so we celebrated both

Oh and there is more

The old calendar is 13 days after Ukrainian/Russians celebrate then
They use the Julian Calendar

Many of my Aunts/ Uncles also celebrate their holidays later

So in fact December/ January is a busy time

Please share some tidbits

Sir lover of words told me about Black Peter in the U.K.

I hope he shares it with us

Love and light,

~Divine
