Cries heard helpless elders
Lining the halls of the emergency room
Lamenting on their pain
Fatigued waiting to be seen
Watching the distress as strain
Across their face
Patiently waiting being told soon
Some have support of family
Others all alone
Falling asleep in the chairs
Pride deprived wearing the hospital gown
Hoping they will be the next one
Some shivering others perspiring
Every case unique as a snowflake
Tested for the basic vitals
Hours go by
Some screaming with pain
Of all that they can take
Wretched distress
Fear in their eyes
Forcing a smile
Some wailing in their cries
Pallid and dishevelled
Waiting
Waiting to be seen
Fatigued from the physical pain
