Echoing across the lands are the beating of the drums
Wailing cries of mourning rising above
The stillness gathered by the melodious hums
Crying tears of anger mixed with shame and guilt
Trying with much difficulty to pierce through the hate
In hopes of sending love to the innocent babes
Governed by rhetoric that is unbelievable
Seduce and calm the overthinking
With a glass of wine or a toke
Changing names of streets and crashing of statues
Doesn’t change the history
Allow it to be relatable
Unfortunately not all are on board
With the desire to sweep it all under the carpet
Is this another version of turning a blind eye.
2021 documentaries about the residential schools and unmarked graves
Here’s the thing
What about the other documentaries of genocide
2006 and before that, that never received proper views
The cries were loud
Deaf ears befallen
Social media and growth of crowds
All those hidden must come to light
Perhaps not in record time
Much time is needed to dig for the truth
Or allow what was covered to unearth
Empathically walking through areas
One can feel the torrent of emotions
One can feel the fear
One can feel disgrace
This one can hear and feel the pain
Sadness befalls
The veil has been lifted ever so slightly.
Much more to be uncovered
