Moonlight whimsy - a duet with Neil
And there I rest
Gazing upon the moon
So far away
Out of reach
Yet with just one thought
So shall I perch upon her beam
Lifted up to Selene's domain
past compass of the mortal sea
to freedom of the human mind
not so entwined with vain humanity
My earthbound form
Enchained to this wandering sphere
Shall not my soul's flight prevent
As she soars free to roam the heavens
Drift, sailor,
on the tides of Jove
as he plays the destiny of planets
for a game of draughts.
Where next?
Fate my helmsman
The Fates do mock our poor endeavours
In futile purpose do I drift on cosmic tides
A mere toy beneath their cruel intent
So vain gods
doff the masks
simulacra of concern
to reveal contemptuous
curling lips
wild eyes
the reign of cruel children
Absolve my frail humanity
I am their humble servant
My vanity blinded me
Deafened my ears
My foolish wish
No more than a dream
