injured back or no injured back, nadal did not bring his best level to the slam for whatever reason and it cost him.


he struggled against nishikori and against dimitrov. he had nearly 50 unforced errors against dimi in a 4 set match.


he put together a good effort against Federer and then his level would drop again.


you just cant win if you cant break serve. and you certainly cant win if you cant take care of your serve also to go along with your inability to return serve.

bottom line: nadal returned very poorly and he was not able to take care of his serve.


nadal lost the first sets to nishikori and dimitrov also but he found his way back in the matches.


you just cant keep living on the edge. one day it has to cost you. he could not return well against nishikori and dimitrov also. this is not his best surface anyway.



anyway this pretty much seals the deal for RG: I think his resolve will go up 1000% now to try capture that slam.

so #14 will happen in Paris this year. you can make book on that.

he will gather the momentum he needs on clay going into Paris.
