Couldn't break. One too many errors from Gulbis to give away 4 straight points to Ferrer.
Did smash his racquet as well after make those two first errors. His temper is still slightly out of control. Something to focus on next. 5-4 Ferrer. Gulbis must win the 2nd and shouldn't prolong the match. I'd like him to win the title. He's a shotmaker and a great plaeyr to watch.
gulbis went to the same tennis academy as nole as you know. they both went to the nikki pilic tennis academy.
gulbis has all the talent in the world. he just cant put it all together.
he even has the gift of height. he is around 6 foot 3. they say he can hit a near 150 MPH serve.
He played very well in the 1st two sets, fought back from 1-4 down in the 2nd but failed to hold his serve at crucial moment at 5-4 and ended up losing the set. He never recovered after that. And that's where he went all wrong. He should have shrugged it all off and should have focused on the 3rd. Instead he let it get to him far too much. Perhaps a 5 set format is a better deal for him at this stage, where he'd have the time to let his mind wander a bit and think about things without having the danger of losing the match immediately like he did yesterday. He really and truly needs to get over it or else this will hold him back each time. His game is fine.
He's fine if he makes a mistake where he was really not in a position to win the point; but he's thoroughly disturbed when he misses a perfect opportunity by getting a bit too excited and over hitting the ball. Because he plays with narrow margin, he needs to learn that not every time he'll hit a perfect shot and should allow himself those mistakes. That's the best way to get over it. Even Andy gets like this at times though he's far more patient these days. Definitely mentally far more mature and that's because he's learned to adjust that. Negative emotion is damaging more often than not.
